Check it:
I got a Yamaha DJX hooked up to my PC via the joystick
port. I'm using Acid Hip-Hop 2.0 and I can't seem to get
Acid to record some songs I got on the keyboard. It's not
even picking up that anything is playing. The levels aren't
moving or nothing.

only midi data gets transfered via the joystick port, not
audio, which is what acid is looking for...

So there's no way I can get Acid hip hop to work with this
keyboard?

take the output of the keyboard and plug it into the line
in on your soundcard. you might have to fool around with
some mixer settings for the soundcard to record.

First make sure that your Midi out from your joystick
connection is connected to your Midi in on your Yamaha.
Then get the appropriate audio cables to connect from your
Yamaha to your soundcard. If my memory serves me correctly
you will need a L/R RCA to stereo 1/8th inch audio cable.
Take the L/R RCA plug them in the back of your Yamaha and
take the other end (1/8th inch) and plug it into your audio
in on your soundcard. Now for the fun part. Open up ACID
and goto Tools/Preferences. Make sure you have your sound
card selected for record in and playback. Then click on
the sync tab. Locate "Use MIDI out sync" and select your
sound cards MPU-401 midi. Click Apply then OK. Also don't
forget to make sure that your Yamaha is set up as a SLAVE
to Midi Time Clock. When all this is complete (assuming
that your version of acid supports these features and your
Yamaha can chase to Midi Time Clock, look in the Yamaha
users manual for that information) all you will need to do
is start a new project on ACID and goto Tools and select
generate Midi Clock. Find any audio loop on your drive and
paste it on a track. Click play and your Yamaha will play
in tempo with ACID. If you need any further assistance
please feel free to contact me at msymphony@kuer-int.com.
I have been asking Sonic Foundry for an answer to a
question I had on one of their products that I own and they
don't seem to have the customer support they claim to
have. So I can relate and understand when you need a
problem resolved.
