Subject:Used SynthMaster with ACID (or any synth VST)?

Hi all I'm trying to use SynthMaster in ACID but can't figure out how you do it. As it is a VST, I can only load it as an effect on an audio track. However I want to use it as a synthesiser on a MIDI track, but it doesn't come up as an option (like eg, DLS synths or ARIA) and I can't figure out how to add a VST as an output synth on a MIDI track. I expect I'm missing something bleedin obvious but it hasn't come to me yet! Thanks for any help. Thanks, all the best Chris Re Bremen's post - I'm creating drum n bass in ACID and love it - I've found ACID has a very gentle learning curve and is very flexible so you can pick it up incrementally. I only tend to post problems as I'm still at a very basic level, so I don't have a lot of wisdom to share! |

Drum and Bass... cool, hope to hear some soon :) I don't know a lot, but maybe I can help.... I've never used SynthMaster, but if it is a VSTi it should load into a midi track. Does it show up when you click on the far right button on the mixer panel that says "Insert Soft Synth"? If it shows up in that list, then it can be added to a midi track. Just select it by double clicking it and then hit "CTRL + ALT + Q" and a midi track will be made and most likely be assigned to the SynthMaster. If it does not show up in the "Insert Soft Synth" list then try re-scaning your VSTi's. If it is in fact a synth VSTi it will work. I just found the SYnthmaster site and yes, it should work... just be sure the SynthMaster.dll file is in your VST directory and you should be good to go. |

Thanks hugely for your help! SynthMaster does appear in the plug-in manager in the VST folder, but when I click on 'Insert Soft Synth..' I get a much more limited list - just ARIA, Crystal, KitCore, Oatmeal and Sony DLS Soft Wynth, (and nothing under the ReWire Devices tab). |

Okay, I think I'm on to something. On looking at their site it seems that SynthMaster is both a Synth and an effect. I have some like that myself, for example Zebra 2 has a synth component as well as an effect component. But, they are actually two separate .dll files. When you say SynthMaster shows up in the Plugin Manager, does it show up under "audio effects" or under "soft synths"? It should show up in both. If it is showing up in "audio effects" only, then the .dll file for the synth is not actually there. If you only see it in the "audio effects" folder then do this. Go to the "softsynths" folder and open it. Then open the "all" option. You will see 3 folders nested within it. They are "failed", "ignored", and "unavailable". Open these one at a time and see if the SynthMaster synth .dll is in there. If you find it then right click on it and select rescan. Many times that will work...... If it is already showing up in the "soft synth" folder, then I don't have a clue... :) In that case perhaps Peter can help.... anyway.... good luck!
