Subject:ACID wont close or Hangs in Processs

Hello forum. Long time reader, first time poster. ;-)

I have noticed for years actually, since Acid 5 (I have been using ACID since 1.0) that it now hangs in the "Processes" taking up mass amounts of Ram for hours after closing a file. Also hijacking the audio card. If I were to work a song file, close up and move on to another, that first session will still be in the "Processes" running and any new project will default to the "Microsoft sound mapper" audio and thus dis-allowing any Rewire or any advanced settings of my M-Audio Delta 44 sound card. I would have to Shut Down the Acid proccess multiple times and most times it requires a full reboot. This is not a good look when I have clients in.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Do you have any external MIDI ports enabled in ACID?

Do you have the latest drivers for the Delta 44?

Yep yep on the latest drivers.

As Far as MIDI I have the Axiom49 controller connected.

are you meaning softsynths or rewire devices in the project? I close them out before religiously saving before every close.

No, I don't mean that.

Try

1. Disabling the Axiom49 in ACID.

if that does not solve the problem,

2. Disconnect the Axiom from your PC. (Not while ACID is running!)

Hmmm. Disable the Axiom? Use ACID with no softsynth controller?

Or you mean to disable before every close?

Is there a compatibility problem with Sony and MAudio?

I mean what I wrote. Disconnect your Axiom as I decribed.

I am trying to determine the cause of the hang. Hardware and the associated drivers tend to be the biggest cause of hangs as you describe.

I am just trying to trouble shoot your problem. Remove all of the potential variables until the problem goes away.

Yes, there are some driver related issues between MAudio MIDI interfaces/drivers and ACID. I personally have an Axiom61 and NEVER have any problems. However it is an obvious place to start looking for trouble.

I noticed this problem in Acid Pro 7, too. However, I do not recall having this issues with Acid Pro 4 through Acid Pro 6.

The Acid Pro 7 application is visually closed, but is still active in the system process for several minutes. Attempts to "End Process" or "End Process Tree" does not close out the program from running in the background after the program has been opened.

I will test out the instructions when I arrive at home later today.

Thanks for the feedback, Peter.

Ted

Edit:
For me, turning off my MIDI controller did solve the problem with Acid Pro inability to close in the background of my PC processes.

Thanks again, Peter!

I have seen this also and tried turning off my M Audio O2 only with its on/off switch after closing an AP7 project and am then able to end the process in task manager.

Hmmm. I havent had the luck you guys have had. I now keep the Axiom49 off when I am loading a project with no soft synths or need for a controller. Acid still hangs more than half of the time. Any other help out there? My Pro Tools install CD is taunting me.......LOL

I also pulled my M Audio fast track pro and dissabled the drivers for it and the O2 but still seeing the multiple instances of AP7 showing in task manager as projects are opened and closed. Tried my Vista drive and no more multiple AP7 running in the background but opening one of the recent projects with a few heavy vstis buried Vista. Back on XP drive. Keeping an eye on my cpu load with speedswitch. Idles at about 2% with a blank AP7 project. When I see it "stuck" at around 40% I know I need to check the task manager.

Trying a few things like XP tricks such as "unload dll", "wait to kill app timeout" etc have made no changes.

Thank you Peter for giving me a better understanding thus far.

I guess if there are known problems with Maudio my answer may be in the incompatability with my sound card (Delta44)? And not my axiom controller. I keep it off unless I need it during a writing session (dig the Aria and Kitcore) but Acid is still hanging with multiple instances even on a fresh boot with the contoller off.

What soundcard and OS are you running, if i may ask?
