Subject:AP7 F/X and Presets

Hey Everyone,

I'm not exactly a newbie, but I've only recently been demanding more from Acid.
My basic process is to record onto a Yamaha AW1600 hard disk recorder, then transfer those wav files to Acid 7 for mixdown, effects and mastering/rendering.

I understand how crucial f/x - particularly EQ and Compression - are to the overall sound of a final mix but I'm spending a LOT of time using the "trial and error" method to educate myself and make choices. More often than not I end up with tragic and horrifying results. The manual devotes no space to talking about the various Sony efffects or the additional Effects Rack f/x that come with Acid 7, and the presets are named in such technical terms that I might as well try one as another for all it means to me.

I know, I know...it's Acid *PRO* not Acid for Dummies. Anyhow...

I'm not asking for settings like "Meaty Vocal Doubler" or "McCartney-esque Bass Shortcut" or "Sure-Fire Platinum Record Master Compression" but it certainly would be helpful to have a more detailed explanation of each of the presets and what they are designed to do as I learn to trust my ears, just to help save me some time if nothing else!

I guess what I'm asking is, does anyone have any suggestions of references, shortcuts, or customized presets - particularly in regard to EQ and Compression for mixing and mastering in Acid Pro 7.

Thanks in advance,

Grey

This does not directly relate to Acid, but here is a like to a "mixing" thread at KVR that has a lot of good info. "http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=3321417" Just copy and past everything between the quotes in your browser....

You will find great tips on compression, limiters and mixing in general......

Hope it helps....
