I bought and installed the latest version of AP7 about 3 weeks ago, including the bundled software, Aria, Kitcore, Guitar Combos, and the Isotope effects rack. My problems started with the cursor not taking focus when clicked in the timeline area. I need to click 2 or 3 times just to regain the stop/play spacebar control. And after a few days putting up with this maddening problem, now if I hit control Q to add a track, AP freezes, nothing works, and the titlebar or programs screen perimeter flashes in and out of focus very quickly, with cpu leaping to 100%. This will happen every time I try to add a track, unless I add via double click on a file in the explorer window. not much help when you want to record though.

So...I've no idea.....I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the whole lot, but no change re these problems.

Why don't you contact Support?

"Why don't you contact Support?"

I will do, but my experience with such matters in the past has shown me that the real knowledge is often to be found on forums.

I've been recently having a lot of crashes w/ AcidPro7, SF9, and CDarch5.2 (installed 12/08). I just re-installed and updated all 3 last night. I am updating my video driver now to see if that might be one source of the crashes. Which video card/driver is on your system?

Have you downloaded and installed the lastest update - ACID Pro 7.0c?

It may seem unrelated, but I note you are using the standard sound card that is pre-installed on your motherboard. What audio drivers are you using? If you are not using ASIO4ALL (google it) and therefore ASIO drivers, you can have a host of problems in a profession music creation program. The CPU spikes could be a sign of it.

As the others have said, be sure to have the latest drivers for you video card as well.

I am a new Acid 7 user, and am very pleased with it. I have yet to have anything even close to a crash.

What Bremen says is true. From my limited time on this forum, the biggest source for crashes/poor performance using Acid is the audio driver not being up to snuff or setup properly for AP (ASIO and latency settings). It doesn't seem logical, but most of the time seems to be the case. It happened to me too.

I really think there should be a sticky about this here. :) "AP# crashing? Check ASIO and audio latency settings"

Thank you for your replies.

Peter: I have version 7c build 653

I did contact support, and was told to reset ap7 on startup, including the apps data cache, which I did, and it seemed to do the trick, no more cursor issues, everything went well for hours, until a trip into ap7 not responding land returned after a simple duplicate track command.
So I am now going to take the advice re the audio drivers, and see what I can sort out for that, I really should get a decent sound card...I know.

Thanks again

AP7 is incredibly unstable on my PC too, its insane, and infuriating. Nearly led me to switch DAWs a few months back. Now all the problems are back and even worse than before, Im really starting to lose my patience.

Looking at the specs for both of you guys, I notice a few things you have in common. Both of you are running AMD boxes, and both are on XP. My desktop is an AMD 4600, and I run XP SP2. So far I have had no problems with AP7c. Also no problems on my Vista Business Laptop, with the on board audio.

I noticed when I installed AP7 on my XP box it forced me to install several things from the Microsoft website. I hate things like that, but went along with it. When I installed on the Vista machine it did not have to install any extras. This simply means (I assume) that Vista has all that stuff already in it. Anyway...... a few questions. First, as I said, I am running SP2 (service pack 2) on my XP install. I never "upgraded" to SP3 because everything works, so no need to fix it. Are you guys on SP2 or SP3? When you installed AP7 on your XP machines, did it also install the extras from Microsoft? Also on your XP machines with AMD have you installed this patch "http://support.amd.com/us/Pages/dynamicDetails.aspx?ListID=c5cd2c08-1432-4756-aafa-4d9dc646342f&ItemID=153" ? I know this patch helped me with a problem I was having in Orion. May not help you guys, but it can't hurt.

I am sure you both have done the simple stuff like, make sure you have no screen savers, no other software open while you are making music, turn off wireless while making music....etc

Anyway, there has to be a reason for the problems, it is just a matter of trial and error until it is solved..

After posting I see the link does not show up as a link. Just copy and past it into Firefox (or IE) and is should work.....

Thanks Bremen Cole for your thoughts. I am running service pack 3 fully updated, and on install I did have to upgrade my NET framework and SQL, but neither of these are any problem though. Your link took me to an incomplete download page, and as I wasn't sure what It was about, I left it.

Since my previous post, I have clean installed the whole lot again, and I am running the ASIO4all utillity.

No more crashing or freezing now (thank god) but I am still left with the cursor losing focus on the timeline as I described above. About 7 times out of 10, I have to double or triple click the timeline to regain focus. I can live with it, but I would rather not.

Is there anything left to do?

@runman, don't know what you mean by incomplete page. I just tried the link again and it takes you to the AMD site and on that page is a "download now" link for the patch..... anyway...

Glad it is working for now. So both of you are running SP3. I have heard of some issues with SP3 and some software. I have no idea if that has anything to do with you guys troubles, but it is worth noting. I have the same focus issue you have. I have that behavior on both the Vista Business Intel laptop, and the XP SP2 AMD desktop. I think it's a design issue in AP7, and though annoying, not a huge deal.

If it starts messing up again be aware of what VST instruments or effects are loaded. If you run some of the free ones, they are not always coded right and can cause problems. Heck, even some high priced commercial ones cause issues on some machines running some DAW's. For me Tera 2, which I have had for years, crashes just about anything. Acid is the first program it does not crash, but it is still buggy as heck.

Anyway good luck, and if you have problems again perhaps it can be traced.

One more thing..... I did not install the media browser on my machines. The database server stuff is not something I like running on my personal machines. I have also found (in other software) that such things can be more headache than they are worth. I find the explorer does what I need. So, if you have problems again perhaps try uninstalling the media browser... just a thought.
