Subject:Akai MPD24 as CONTROL SURFACE for Sony ACID 7.0 ?

I'm learning to use Acid Pro 7. It's very capable. I am not...yet. Can the Akai MPD24 knobs and faders be configured to function as a control surface for whatever faders, sliders and other functions I choose within Acid Pro 7? I don't understand MPD24 Pad Banks functionality yet: Can I simply press an MPD24 Pad Bank button to switch from one mode (drum programming, for example) into my own custom-configured "Acid Pro Mixer-Controller" mode? And then, just as easily switch back to "drum mode" configuration? Thanks Message last edited on6/4/2009 10:24:01 AM byTom B. |

I have a Yamaha KX-8. This is an 88-key MIDI controller with weighted keys. It too has features to control DAW software such as REC,loop, stop, play. However it seems that it is geared to Cubase which I don't care for. It would be cool to use but probably very complicated. Even getting Acid to recognize USB controllers can be a tricky business depending on drivers and the OS you are using. I know people that have had a lot of success with PreSonus Faderport for these purposes. They go for about 150$. It has one "motorized fader" and allows you to select the track it's controlling with an arrow button. It has a lot of features for controlling DAW software. Just another option but a particularly good one. |

Thanks, MB == Not very encouraging, overall, but I will keep searching for anwers. Maybe the next round of midi pad controllers will accommodate Acid Pro better. I like Presonus very much, and have their FireStudio Project for my preamps (8). I'll look into the Faderport, per your description. I wish I had that KX-8 of yours. WooHOO! Thanks, Tom |

Can the Akai MPD24 knobs and faders be configured to function as a control surface for whatever faders, sliders and other functions I choose within Acid Pro 7? You should be able to set up a Generic Control Surface driver for the MPD24. In order to use the MPD24 for two different purposes you will have to make sure that the mappings to the controls do not get in the way of each other for the different modes. The Generic Control Surface Driver will pass through or ignore all MIDI msgs not assigned to an ACID control. This means that any message not assigned to a Control Surface command will be passed through to ACID. The reverse is also true. If a MIDI msg is assigned to control say transport Play, then that msg will not be passed through to ACID for other purposes. Peter |
