Subject:Windows ME & SF5Beta

Bummer. After 2.4 hours of downloading, then extracting et
al, SF5Beta does not run under on my system either. (Add
it to 4.5 and 4.5XP) All stop execution almost immediately
saying they cannot execute the AVICAP32.DLL file, and I
should fix it. Me fix it???? I don' even know how to
pronounce it.

My highest level of technical competence was to be able to
find the file, and see that it was created/modified on
6/8/2000.

I got my system in December 2000 with Windows ME on it.
128MB, 40GB HD, CD/DVD and CD-RW. I have been able to
transfer all other programs from my Windows 95 antique and
they run. There must be a problem with SF interfacing with
Windows ME -- certainly with AVICAP32.DLL on my Windows
ME.

This problem continues to drag on. Is anybody out there?
Hello?????

Hi,
I downloaded SF5.0 BETA (build 102) into my WIN-ME and
installed it (per default) into a seperate
directory "C:\Program Files\Sound Forge Beta" etc. and have
had absolutely no problems with it. I run it along side of
the existing SF4.5, concurrently, in seperate windows,
without problem as well. Try re-installing the Beta into a
different directory than SF4.5. I expect you will find
subtle differences - one that "bugs" me is that the BATCH
processor in SF4.5 does not exist in SF5, nor is there any
mention in the new HELP files about "batch". Could they
have foolishly removed it ? So I get compatibility errors
when I try to load my "special saved batch scripts" .SFZ
files into the beta. So, there may be some problems, but
loading & running beta along side 4.5 is not one of them
under WIN-ME.
Good luck.

Sounds terrific that it works on Windows ME. So there IS
hope for me. Would you do me a favor and FIND the
AVICAP32.DLL file and jot down the date and, if it shows
the size. The one I have shows 6/8/2000 5PM. My Windows
ME came preinstalled on the computer last December and I
assume that AVCICAP32.DLL was with it.

Hi Randy,
My Win-Me system (original version bought last Summer)
has the module AVICAP32.DLL dated 6/8/2000 5:00 PM and size
68 KB. More precisely, properties shows the 68 KB size
(69,632 bytes) and disk size 72.0 KB (73,728 bytes).
Hope this helps.
If you are still having odd things happening with SF5,
why not re-install a second copy of SF5 Beta in a different
directory. If you check carefully, when it asks for a
directory, it will offer to create its default of "Sound
Forge Beta" as a directory name. If the second version
works better, unstall (SF4.5 and the original SF5 beta),
and then reinstall your old SF4.5, if you like. Remember,
in the short term, SF5 does not have a BATCH processor
(which I use all the time in SF4.5). As you may have read,
BATCH Processor Utility is due for release as a special add-
on sometime in March.
Besides, until all the bugs are worked out of SF5's
official release, it is aways good to have the old SF4.5
around as a check on odd things, to report back to them.

Good luck.
Joe
