Subject:Why NO *COMPREHENSIVE* Acid Pro 7 training?

The promotional blurb for the Acid Pro 7 "Seminar Series" DVD states clearly that it contains information regarding only the *NEW* version 7 features. The basic tutorial videos available online at sonycreativesoftware.com > training are merely scattered excerpts taken from the Acid Pro 6 training, and they refer to reference material that is unavailable to me. Frankly, version 6 appears quite similar to version 7, so how much helpful information can there be on the version 7 Seminar Series DVD (at a cost of $100)? I spoke with Sony Sales today. They confirmed that each "seminar series" DVD contains only "new" features. The helpful rep suggested VASST.com, but then put me on hold and checked for herself, finding no Acid Pro training available there either. DOES ANYONE HERE KNOW OF *COMPREHENSIVE* VIDEO TRAINING FOR ACID PRO 7? I'm very frustrated with scratching around on YouTube to little or no avail... The newly released Vegas Pro 9 comes with *COMPREHENSIVE training*. Why not Acid Pro? Acid Pro 7 is a good, deep program containing a wide array of diverse and useful tools. Why is Sony shortchanging us by not providing decent training for such a complex application? And yes, the caps do indicate RAISING MY VOICE, Tom Message last edited on5/13/2009 9:34:10 AM byTom B. |

I'd like to know about this myself (being new to Acid Pro 7 and using DAW software period), I was considering purchasing the DVD but will hold off now until I can find something better. |

Is this what you are looking for? http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/acidseminarseries Disc 1: Seminar DVD The new features of ACID Pro 7 software: The videos on this disc walk you step by step through the new features of ACID Pro 7. You’ll not only learn what the new features are and how they work, but also gain insight into how you might use them in your projects. It is a bit pricey but I can't figure out why no one else has even come close to making a tutorial dvd of any software of this quality. They have projects so you can work right along with the video. I have the DVD for Acid 6 but with the changes in 7, I wouldn't find it useful. BTW, you will not find any tutorials out there that are better. I wish they had a sale on these DVDs. I bought the Acid 6 DVD with an academic discount from a academic retailer. Message last edited on5/13/2009 4:02:45 PM bykitekrazee. |

I ordered this earlier today: http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Acid-Pro-Video-Tutuorial/dp/B000FUUH8A Hopefully the link will work for you from this forum. It's to the Acid Pro 6 DVD tutorial from DigitalMusicDoctor.com which is available on Amazon.com (from the maker) for just $19.95 plus $2.95 S/H ($34.95 elsewhere, if you can find it). Sinse Sony's own online tutorial snippets, at Sony's own training page, all refer to Acid Pro 6 (SIX) I figure this other v.6 training ought to be worth a $23 investment. The "Know It All!" training DVD from Digital Music Doctor seems to have a decent online rating among users, from what little I can find. I really have always liked Sony creative software products, but they sure dropped the ball regarding the training for Acid Pro 7. Tom |

But KiteK, The point of my post is that no *comprehensive* (as in *complete*) training exists. I didn't buy an *upgrade* from v6 to v7. I bought the entire, fresh v7 application. I'm not at all familiar with earlier versions, so I need to learn to use *the whole program*. Not just the latest changes since v6... Tom |

Actually the Sony DVD is complete walkthrough. That's how I learned Acid 6. One disc contains the videos and the other disc has step by step projects that go along with the video. All of the snippets on Sony's site are old. The ones for Vegas go back to Vegas 6. The link I posted is what you are looking for. I don't think that salesperson knew what you were talking about. KK == Thanks for your reply. I asked about this back when I purchased Acid Pro 7. Sony Sales (via phone) advised that the Acid Pro 7 Seminar Series does *not* contain comprehensive training - just the *new* features since v6. In my conversation yesterday, the rep advised that *each* Seminar Series DVD has contained only the new features, added since the previous version. As I understand it, v6 added a LOT, so maybe the training was particulary broad on the v6 DVD...? For what it's worth, here's what the online promo states: Disc 1: Seminar DVD The new features of ACID Pro 7 software: The videos on this disc walk you step by step through the new features of ACID Pro 7. You’ll not only learn what the new features are and how they work, but also gain insight into how you might use them in your projects. Disc 2: Companion disc This disc contains all of the files that the instructor uses in the training lessons. In addition, it contains all of the same training videos found on disc 1, but these have been optimized for playback on your computer. I'll try calling Sony Sales one more time. I hope you're right. Thanks, Tom |

Fair is Fair. I bought a Flash video tutorial for Acid 6 (all I could find) by Digital Music Doctor, and am about halfway through it. It's kinda rough, but does give a pretty good idea of how to use the basic features of v7.0. Armed with that information, I'm studying the 70-page Quickstart Manual that came with Acid Pro 7. And guess what? It's extremely well written, and so far very helpful/informative. I find it IMPOSSIBLE to learn deep software by reading about it. The video tutorial--ANY video tutorial--breaks the ice enough for me to crack the book. Now that I have the DigiMusicDr video reference, I find the Quick Start manual, PDF manual, Help files and the app's "Interactive Tutorials" easier to digest . A comprehensive video tutorial from Sony would be much better/quicker, though. Looks like I should just "shut up and read". =) Tom Message last edited on5/31/2009 2:37:48 PM byTom B. |

I bought the Acid 7 Seminar DVD. I was/am extremely disappointed with it. Believe it or not, the video quality is very poor! It looks like they messed up the rendering. As for the lessons themselves they seem like a "stream of conciousness" lecture rather than a well structured, easy to review format. I think Gary should stick to writing his tutorials. ;-) |

I've been going through the same search. I've no experience of it, but VTC do online and DVD training (and generic production training too). This looks like a full intro to Pro v6 - 9 hours and 99 lessons: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-Acid-Pro-Video-Training/dp/B000JWNE20/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=software&qid=1244192741&sr=8-5 I can also learn through a good book, and while I agree the Quickstart manual is great, being new to production I'd like something that talked about how you use the functionality to create music, as well as what buttons you press (hence I quite like VTC's background). This looks promising (I think Sony were involved in its creation) but again is for v6: http://www.amazon.co.uk/ACID-Pro-Power-Official-Guide/dp/1592009778/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1244192927&sr=8-3 So I am eagerly awaiting v7 and in the meantime creating tracks in my own very idiosynchratic ways! (Which I think is a healthy way to learn.) Anyone know if updating either of these products is in the pipeline? All the best Chris |
