Wishlist / Suggestions

Here are a couple of things, that, I have called wish list, but I guess really they are things that I don't understand why Vegas doesn't give me the ablity to do. Maybe this will generate some responses saying, Matt you are an idiot, if you do blah, blah, blah, then it does do that.

1) I can add a "real-time" non destructive Video FX, to a single clip of video anywhere on the timeline. Why can't I add an Audio FX to a single piece of audio anywhere on the timeline, without having to do a Non Realtime new version, or doing an Effect over a whole audio track.

2) I can make a track "3D Alpha" and then rotate and position in the Z-Plane. Why do I have to use a whole track up for this, Why can't I just select a single video clip, and be able to set this to 3D space, and rotate it. - This over-compliactes my edits, having to use multiple 3D layers or using keyframes. This shouldn't be necessary.

3) In Vegas 9.0 32 bit, I have some projects that will not render, they bomb out with a memory error. This basically seems to be as soon as Vegas takes 1GB memory in task manager. So I have to turn off Memory allocated to preview display, and turn off thumbnails on all tracks, before I render. If memory is a problem for Vegas when rendering, and it does seem to be, why doesn't Vegas automatically turn off these Thumbnails and the memory allocated to the previews display OFF just before rendering, and when its finished turn them back on. Its not like we need to see thumbnails or use the preview buffer when rendering.

Anyway, just a few suggestions, and a bit of a whinge. Hell I am English, its my right.

Matt

Agree with 1) Matt!

How about these:

1. Improved H.264 encoding. Update MainConcept encoder or improve Sony AVC encoder.

2. Improved slow motion

3. Display of event length on the event itself during ripple editing (in the meantime thanks to Rosebud for the ShowEventLength custom command).

4. Ability to quickly jump to instances of media from the media pool (from the media's context menu) (in the meantime thanks to Rosebud for the gotoevent custom command).

5. Tabbed projects. Multiple projects in tabs in same window.

6. Cop/cut/paste between projects in a single Vegas window.

8. Thumbnail view in Explorer window, or better still, "filmstrip" view of video files showing multiple frames within the file, like in Scenalyzer.

9. Import mpeg elementary streams (.m2v)

10. Improved intelligence in locating offline media

11. Static preview thumnails of how the video will look like rendered in the video bus track.

12. Improved auto-save including variable increment

13. Auto-add video events to project media as they are rendered

14. A way to migrate window layouts between versions

15. Shortcuts to often-used directories in open/save/render etc. windows (like Reason has)

16. Put sfap0 files in a different folder/drive from the vegas project (i.e. with my other big video assets)

17. I-frame markers in timeline and trimmer

18. Advanced deinterlacing and resizing options

20. Scrollable preview window

21. Ability to show separate audio plug-in windows (e.g. a VST master meter in a separate window from a track compressor)

22. Display tooltip of the file name when hovering over an event in the timeline (c.f. Premiere)

23. Improved MPEG2 encoding speed and quality (c.f. Cinemacraft)

24. Remember size and position of "Open" dialogue when closing Vegas.

25. Keyframing opacity and gain on an event level, not just track level.

26. Ability to auto-update normalizing of audio events (if the loudest parts of some events get trimmed since normalizing).

27. Rewire support

28. Direct animated GIF export

Here are the two things that I ask for at every release:

1. A true plugin interface that passes the whole clip and not just one frame.

2. Bezier handles on track motion so can have full control on how images move. Most compositing tool offer this.

I too agree with being able to drop an effect on an audio clip just like we do with video. Currently I have to assign the clip to its own track.

Actually you don't have to. There is a third party 3d effect for events by Debugmode... you need the adapter pack for it though which is not downloadable anymore. If you want it let me know and I can email it to you.

"1. A true plugin interface that passes the whole clip and not just one frame." I doubt any real benefit can be gain on the timeline because of the way tracks are process, but a settable flag per selected track to save the last 2-6 processed frames and pass the buffer ptrs to the plugin would permit features like motion tracking,.....pixel tracking,,,,etc,,,,this could be done with some limitations I believe without ko-ing the memory.

I wish 3Dtrack motion was quicker.

Okay, aside from the issues I'm having with 9 getting fixed (
Thread : Anyone else? Playback issues? ) I've only got two:

1) MOTION TRACKING! I'll keep begging for this till Vegas has it! =)

2) I'd love to be able to "toss" the timeline. I'm so used to this feature with Photoshop and other programs now, not to mention my cell phone, I almost expect it to be there. Would be a nice little feature me thinks.

Thats it!

Sony will make V10 and V11 out of your wish list and make you excited twice and you'll be happy to buy it again, then you'll compose another list again and so on.

I have only 1 wish make AVCHD work ASAP! Then after that I might have another one.

But I still might buy V9, I love the new layout, so far that is the only improvement I see!

lol@apit, you make that sound so wrong!

You know, on iPhones you can scroll down websites or if your zoomed in on a picture you can "flick" it and it has momentum to move around. In Photoshop CS4 you can do the same thing with images. It would be an amazing ability to be able to grab the top of the timeline and instead of just scrolling to the end of the screen be able to "flick it" to get further down. Hopefully that makes sense.

And yes, I think you already knew it but ya forced me to try and clarify!

Nick Hope:
Which Cinemacraft Codec are you speaking of as they have 9 the last time I looked. The price of Vegas would go up another $1500.00 just for that codec.

You already have that functionality

Matt:

I totally agree with you on this. It's such a basic issue. Why dosen't each audio clip have a clickable effect icon like on the video portion?

Nick,

Where can this be found?

Thanks

Regarding event level audio FX, one reason that's been given is that with an effect such as reverb or echo, the sound needs to continue beyond the end of the event

I use CinemaCraft Encoder Basic, which costs USD 58. What I mean is that, in my opinion, the CinemaCraft MPEG2 codec is the target in terms of quality and speed.

Indeed I do! I didn't realise that clicking "Video Preview on External Monitor" gives a full screen preview on the same monitor that Vegas is running on, if you only have one monitor. Thanks for prompting me to investigate that.
