Subject:Getting OEM ver. of CD Arch to work in SF4.5 full version

Hello SF folks, I've a technical question that sort of falls in line with the disappointed crowd who wish CD Architect wasn't being discontinued. I recently purchased Sound Forge 4.5, Vegas Pro and a Microboards CD Factory Pro burner that comes bundled with CD Architect. My intention was to use Vegas as my multi-track, master in Sound Forge and burn with CD Architect from within Sound Forge (the full version). However when I tried to install CD Arch it would only let it be installed with Sound Forge XP, it wouldn’t recognize the full version of Sound Forge. According to SF Tech support, the bundled version of CD Arch is an OEM version and they say it won’t work without Sound Forge XP. Well no where had I ever read that there were 2 vesions of CD Architect, only 2 versions of Sound Forge. I don’t understand this, as I know CD Arch is really just a plug- in. They have been less than helpful now and I really can’t even purchase the full version, as they no longer offer it on their web site, so here’s my question. Does anyone know how to plug it into the right folders or un-install Sound Forge XP so it will run within the full version. This can’t be that difficult!!!! I really love all their products and have used this set-up before in another studio situation and they were bullet proof. I just want what I thought I paid for to work the way they said it should work. I’ve even suggested to them that they let me download from their FTP site the full version (it wouldn’t “cost” them anything) so it would work and they said it was no longer available. Can someone help me??? Maybe even give me a work around other than using both versions of Sound Forge. Also, does anyone know if this “OEM” version is a down-scaled package with less capabilities? Thanks Joseph |

Sounds like your being penalized for purchasing a full version of sound forge. Maybe they expect you to do all your work in Sound Forge, then exit out when you're done mastering and then open up Sound Forge Xp and put your songs in order using CD Architect. CD architect really isn't a plugin (ie it doesn't come up in DirectX menus.) Instead it comes up under the "Tools" menu in Sound Forge. When You install CD architect all the files get placed into the same folder that you installed Sound Forge into. Here's what I would Try as a work around. First unistall Sound Forge and CD architect and Sound Forge XP. Then reinstall Sound Forge XP and then CD architect, in that order. Now install your full version of Sound Forge into the same directory you installed Sound Forge XP into. What that should do is over write the Sound Forge XP files plus have the CD architect files in their correct location and hopefully all the windows registry information will be correct. Open up sound Forge and see if it comes up under the "Tools" menu. It still shows CD architect update 4.5g in SF download section, you need your CD architce Serial Number to get in. I recon you tried that already though, so I'm guessing that doesn't exist any longer? If that's the case then that is just "Wrong". If you can somehow access that then that version will install correctly with Sound Forge. So try all that, and if none of that works and SF decides not to give you any tech support to get the stuff you purcased to work correctly, then email me at soundman696@hotmail.com and I will help you out further with tech support. If you really get desperate, my distributor still shows 11 copies of CD Architect in stock, and I will order, sell and ship at cost if you really want it. ($239 with shipping). I've offered to buy CD Architect from SF since they are just going to throw it away (see my post in the CDA forum) but have had no response from SF. Joseph L. If your have XP 4.5 load then uninstall. Load CD Architect Download 4.0g Load 4.0g Now, don''t go back and load 4.5 version blah blah blah because you will get the "older version installed" crap. Download XP 4.5h or the latest update Load the XP update, with your s/n and your in business to use CD Arch! |
