No such problem here. But I already had v5.0b installed when I installed the v9 trial.

It installed with no error messages.
Problem is - it won't run. I hope someone will help me with Startup Code 2
Whatever it is..

Did install the new DVDA over the 'old' DVDA? error code: 0x80070057 is usually associated with a corrupt registry.

What new DVDA? There IS no new DVDA if you already have the 5.b downloaded - as most of us already have ?!

The DVDA was included in the upgrade price, though. But if you already have it, wy bother and re-install?

Hopefully you get this thing sorted out quickly.

I have had problems with version 5 before, so I just uninstalled it and resorted to version 4.5.

Hopefully you get this thing sorted out quickly.
Yes!!

Interesting though that I received another serial number for DVDA 5.
Eventhough I already had one for it.
I now have 2 numbers for one program?

I uninstalled version 4.5 of DVDA as well. Then installed version 5b which was supplied with Vegas 9.

Now, when I run DVDA for the first time after installing it, I get:

Then I get:

Holy cow - I am the very administrator on my PC, I have absolutely all rights. And I installed and registered Vegas 9 just a couple of hours ago!!

Quite interesting though.... the serial number from my dvda already installed is not the same as the one included in the 9 download. I guess I now own 2 serial numbers for dvda??

Most likly the old SN will not entitle you to any future updates.

You're running Vista 64-bit, meaning that UAC (User Account Control) is likely getting in the way. Right-click the install file and choose "Run as administrator" to invoke the warning prompt and bypass the protective measures.

Hi Steve,
I have months ago disabled anything that has to do with the UAC, I don't see it anymore. And - I have tried your suggestion before I read it here - it just do not help.
By the way, the problem is not unknown. Over in the DVDA newsgroup, people have had similar problems, but so far I have not seen any solution - apart from reinstalling Windows. This works! Ha ha..
I just posted this topic here because of the sheer publisity it gets, compared to the other news group. I hope someone from Sony will chime in. Annoying it is not to be able to run it.. It definitely is a bug. And I suspect there is something in the Registry or elsewhere that is not completely uninstalled from a previous attempt to install it.

A few months back, I tried to installd DVDA 5, and also the I got these messages. So I installed DVDA 4.5 and all went fine. It is version 5 that has "it"..

have a looksee at DEP (data execution prevention) and exclude DVDA from it. IIRC, was solution to similar problem when I installed DVDA to Vista64 way back.....
ingvarai wrote on 5/12/2009, 3:36 AM
Thanks for the tip! Unfortunately, it did not help. I turned off DEP, then tried to start DVDA. Same as before, same complaint, I do not have suffucient prvileges to run it. So I turned DEP on again.
I have filed a support request with Sony, hopefully I will get an answer.

Have you tried following the instructions in the knowledgebase here?

Mark
ingvarai wrote on 5/12/2009, 7:22 AM
Hi Mark,

I have spent 1 hour trying all kind sof combinations of this - no result, I still get this error message. The costs of struggling with at all being able to start DVDA 5 has now passed the purchase costs by a wide margin.
I will post a new thread, because I have some more experience with installing DVDA 4.5 and then installing 5.0. There is an interference somewhere, definitely. And 5.0 installs to the c:\Program files.. DVDA 4.5 directory! And renders 4.5 totally unusable.

Ingvarai -

I would suggest a clean uninstall/reinstall, using these instructions. Only this time, rather than reinstalling the app under your user name, create a new User Account. Make sure that the new account is an administrator. Install and register the application under that account. You can then continue to run the program under your own user account, and eventually delete the "test" admin account.

Blink - you now own 2 licenses for DVD Architect 5.0.

Thanks to all who helped me with this!
I now have case closed!

bops:

NO NO NO! Horrors..
My harddisk is full of Sony Creative apps, they stay there, period.
And:
"Also, remove the Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (SONY_MEDIAMGR), any and all Microsoft .NET Framework versions"

NO!!! The .Net framework is part of the Vista operating system. I will not remove anything in Vista just to make the DVDA run..

It has been a tough day..
I also had to uninstall / reinstall Sony Sound Forge 9, because something went wrong with this app too. At the same time I discovered that iZotope had released an update to its Sound Forge bundle, so I got this as a bonus at least :-)

Ok, to the solution:
When fiddling with the registry, I accidentally removed ALL users from the list of permissions on one Sony key. This is a catch 22 situation, I locked myself out, and could not add myself as a user with permissions again. When searching for a solution to this new problem, I came across this MS tool:
SubInACL
With good help of this article I solved my problem.

Here is my approach, certainly there are ways to simplify it, nevertheless this is what worked:

1) Use Regedit and remove all users from the list of permissions on the two major Sony keys in registry.
2) Run the tool I mention above, resetting HKEY_CURRENT_USER and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. For the latter hive, expect the tool to use 1 hour (!) to finish.
3) Use Regedit again and add only yourself and the Administrator, and give full rights.
4) Install the problem app again, and hopefully you will be as successful as I was.

So - back to work, after several unproductive hours..

I want to add:
I could probably have run the tool on only the keys in question, not the entire registry. Perhaps I have introduced new problems that I will discover later. So far all seems to work very well.
And for those who encounter the same issues - by all means run this at your own risk!
