Hello Everyone, I just came across a big quality issue with regard to outputting my mp3 files for speech today. All along I believed what the software told me with regard to encoding mp3 files with Sound Forge (8.0d). Using the "Quality:" slider I moved it all the way to the right believing it would create a better sounding audio file (for spoken word). NOT SO. Check my results and let the forum and I know what you think. http://www.abovethedogs.com/mp3test/ I came across it because I knew the quality was not as good as when I had an engineer filling in for me and he used Steinberg's Wave Lab. So I figured I'd do a test in Sound Forge with various bitrates. The medium and high settings sounded like they were recorded on a crappy mic (I record with an AKG C-414 going thru an ART Dual MP. The ART may not be the best, but it doesn't sound like a cheap computer preamp/mic). The fastest sounds the best to me. Thanks all. Wally Message last edited on5/1/2009 8:00:40 AM byWally T. |

"quality' and 'MP3' are not two things that normal sit in the same sentence AFAIC. Given you have started by imposing constarint in the form of a 64kbps rate, what sort of quality variation did you expect - extremely crappy v. quite crappy v. crappy ? All sound 'quite crappy' to me - not sure I can pick a best or worst. geoff |
