Sony, how about letting us pre-download a trial before we pre-order?
Is that too much to ask, seriously?
Edit: I didn't realize when I originally posted this that we'd have until June 30 to pre-order. Based on what I know now, I'll wait until May 11th or whenever it's available for download to test it out then make my purchase.
I know "pre-order" means to order before it's available for sale to the public, but I guess what I mean is I'm sure they have an RC version, if not final version already completed. Let us download that for a quick run-through to see how it works for us.
It's not like you can get a refund if it doesn't work for you, can you? (and that's not rhetorical, I never tried to get a refund)
Relax already.
It'll be released on May 11 and you have until June 30 to take advantage of the introductory offer which means there's lots of time to grab the trial version and decide.
Don't get me wrong, I love Vegas and haven't had any problems with previous versions, even AVCHD on 8.
So no, Sony hasn't called and threatened me into buying it immediately, but they have said "hey, pre-pay us for it now at a discount before you see it". So yeah, I'd want to at least try out a bit something before buying it, even if there is a discount involved.
I see now from a post a few above yours that the discount deal will still be in effect well past 5/11, so there's no problem.
it has always seemed weird to me that for software like this they'll preorder before the demo, but the preorder ends AFTER the demo comes out. With entertainment software preordered are based on hype, that's where they make their $$. With this there's actuatly no advantage to preordereing: the demo comes out before the deals expire.

I don't see what's wrong with that, and I think it's the way to go.
I agree with the original poster... it makes A LOT of sense to buy software only after you've tried the demo and are happy with it. I'd be extremely hesitant about buying software sight unseen.
If you let the preorder expire after the release, then people can actually try the software before buying.
That being said, I think will be placing my preorder right now... because I'll be buying it anyways, I might as well buy it now.
OK, I think it's clear, based on the fact that in the past Sony always had the download and software available at the same time (first day of NAB, usually) that the software is not quite ready yet. Don't ask them to give you the demo when they're making it clear it's not ready.
Would you ask the chef for a taste of the dish before you order?

And as far as the chef comment, if the dish isn't any good you can always send it back to the kitchen! :)
then you will not buy it, if they let you do that!
Listen, if you do not like it ask for refund, this is the only wow to deal with this, I'll buy it but if that does not work with my AVCHD I'll ask for the money back, shoudve done it before after V7 and V8 At the same time I'll return Sony camere I bought last year and go with something else that works.
