Rendering Problem with AVCHD

After editing 1920 X 1080 AVCHD using Sony Pro 8.0c I render out from the timeline as .mpg-2 wide screen.

My problem is if I leave the picture quality setting in good when rendering I get wiggly lines around objects when the camera moves.

If I render out in best quality setting everything is Okay but it takes much longer to render.

Any ideas why???

Because "best" is a better quality than "good"?

From what I understand the slider was put there because there are certain codecs that can render faster (with less calculations) than other ones. HD mpeg2 is NOT one of them and the slider really should be set on "best" all the time. I would imaging that when going from mpeg2 to mpeg2 you can get away with fewer calculations, but with avchd it's a different ballgame.

Foe what it's worth... i render from avc to mpeg2 as well and ALWAYS have the slider set at full.

Hello -

From the Vegas help file:

Unless you have specific performance problems, choose Good. Choosing Best can dramatically increase rendering times.

In response to having the slider on best, I always have the slider all the way up even if I'm rendering in good or best quality.

What I'm talking about is when you go to (render as) in the dialog boxes I choose my settings (mpg-2 widescreen) then I open custom window and change good to best in the pull down window.

What I really need to know is when rendering AVCHD 1920 X 1080 to mpg-2 widescreen, in the good quality setting is it normal to have wiggly lines around objects when there's camera movement or do I have a computer problem???

Anyone having positive results rendering AVCHD to mpg-2 in the GOOD quality mode with Vegas Pro 8.0c???
