Hello, I recently purchased Acid 6.0 (d) and have been playing around with it all day... I upgraded from Acid Music Studio 6 and for the most part the transition has gone OK.... With the exception of these two things.... 1. ACID will randomly shut down because of a problem with "winmm.dll." This is pretty frustrating and it's happened mostly while I'm using Sony loops, however it's also happened when using MIDI. I don't think the problem is b/c of my soundcard because I'm using an M-Audio USB Pre-Amp, which I never had problems w/ when using with Music Studio 6. 2. My other problem is less technical... I love Kompakt so far, but I can't figure out how to record multiple instruments with it.... In other words, I want to have one track that's for instance an organ, and then have a completely different track that's bass. Is this possible? I've tried making new MIDI tracks and having two Kompakt busses running at the same time, but that didn't work. I also tried to use the Multi Instrument thing, but it would only play one sound (in my case, the organ....my keyboard wouldn't play the bass, but the onscreen one would) Anyway, I apologize if this came across as muddled...It's really hard to describe these problems over the internet....If anybody can read through my rabble, I would be much appreciative of any help. Thanks |

I can’t help with #1 but #2 is a bit easier. Just insert the Kompakt synth once and load your organ into the first instrument slot and the bass into the second. Notice that on the left of the instrument names it shows details about each instrument. It will tell you that instrument 1 is mapped to MIDI channel 1 and instrument 2 is mapped to MIDI channel 2, and so on. You can load up to eight instruments with a single Kompakt instance. Now insert a MIDI track. Notice that by default it is assigned to Kompakt using MIDI channel 1. Next insert a second MIDI track and by default it will be mapped to Kompakt using MIDI channel 2. You are all set to record. If you select the header of track 1 your MIDI keyboard will play organ. When you select the header of track 2 your MIDI keyboard will play the bass. Just arm the track you want to record and have fun. ~jr |

Lol, thanks. I finally realized what I was doing wrong.... I'm just starting with this MIDI thing... Does anybody know anything about my first question? I'm starting to think it might have something to do with my preamp (M-audio Mobilepre USB). I used to use a yamaha USB-midi cable, but I just replaced that with an M-Audio Oxygen (which uses its own USB cable). So in short, I know it's not the MIDI cable. Now, I'm thinking it's the preamp, the software, or my computer.... Just not sure which of the three. Any help would be much appreciated.... Message last edited on8/24/2007 8:22:53 AM byJE88. |

The shutting down could be a lot of things. I'm not sure how ACID uses "winmm.dll". Someone from Sony will have to comment on that. Try using the on-board sound chip instead of the USB MobilePre just to see if it makes a difference. You can’t do any serious work with the on-board sound because the latency will be too high but you’re just trying to eliminate the MobilePre as the source of the problem. ~jr Message last edited on8/25/2007 6:37:41 AM byJohnnyRoy. |

Thanks for the response, JohnnyRoy, on both this site and DMN.. I'm posting my response on both sites just in case anybody else has any input... Isolating the problem was a good suggestion. I unplugged the MobilePre and unfortunately STILL had the problem... So at least now I know it's not because of M-Audio... This time the shut down happened when I tried to change the tempo of the song.... The same error message popped up....winmm.dll... Do you have any idea what I can do for it? And also, do you plan on making a book about ACID 6.0? Thanks again |

I have had the same winmm.dll problem since day of purchasing the upgrade from Acid 5 to Acid 6 Pro. The program has basically been unusable to me since I bought it. I will hit payback and at any random moment a box will appear telling me that acid has experienced an error and must shut down. Same error to the winmm.dll file. from acid60.exe as you posted in your last message. I spent $149 to upgrade and have never been able to get past 10 minutes of using the program without it shutting down. This is with no hi CPU plugins or anyhting loaded. It can be with only one loop track loaded - doesn't matter. I upgraded my Direct X files, upgraded my audio card driver, - no change... I have a Steinberg MI4 audio interface with the latest drivers that works PERFECTLY with legal copies of Abelton LIVE, Cubase Studio 4 and FLS Studio 7. The only program that I cant use (and of course the one I love the most) is Acid Pro 6. Peter H. has helped me so much but I still cant get the program to run stable. 10 minutes max, usually less. Hopefully you will know that you are not the only one experiencing this degree of dificulty inusing AP6. More hopefully, the people at SONY are listening and will see that there are some serious bugs that need to be fixed. We cant be the only two having these problems! I WANT to be a loyal SONY customer, but how can I be when I spend money on an upgrade that just will NOT work and no one can fix the problem? This is not the first time I have posted to this forum about this....sad Message last edited on9/1/2007 8:04:41 AM byohmaya. |

When you change the tempo, are you playing back ? Does it happen when you are not playing back? If you disable all MIDI i/o in ACID prefs, does it happen? Does it happen when you are recording audio? MIDI? Both? Peter |

The problem does seem to stop if I don't use MIDI... But that's not really a practical solution as I use MIDI in all of my songs... As far as the tempo goes, it shuts down when the project is playing and I change tempo... But it also happens at various other moments when using the program, such as MIDI recording... Also, just so we're not talking in two different places, I sent an email to Sony with a detailed description of the error. I uploaded it as a word document a few days ago, but have yet to hear anything back.... Was this received? And more importantly, no disrespect intended, but why does it take so long for Sony to respond? I realize I'm not one of your customers who's trying to pay money for phone support or whatever, but the fact remains that I shelled out 300.00 for this program, and have still yet to have it work right. Honestly, this is really ticking me off, and I refuse to pay for phone support for a product that is supposed to work... I love ACID, but if I have to sell this, cut my losses, and move to protools, I will... |

OK, so as often works out, my foot is now in my mouth... Sony replied to me right after I wrote this.... I'll let you know if their suggestions work... Hopefully they do, and your problem will also be fixed... |

So far Sony's suggestions haven't worked... ACID continues to randomly shut down... This is even after I deleted all Sony materials in the registry, reinstalled it for the umpteenth time, upgraded to two gigs of RAM, and ended nearly every process running except for ACID... How in the world is Sony Music Studio 5 more effective and reliable than the daggon pro version??? It seems that I've wasted my money for nothing... Does anybody have any additional suggestions? Once again, thanks... |

Just dug this thread up because I've just started having winmm.dll crashes this evening (of course I'm in the middle of a huge project) with ACID Music Studio 7.0a build 157 and M-Audio's USB MIDI interface. I do think it may have something to do with M-Audio, I've just started using it and the problems just started....I'm just wondering if anyone ever got any satisfactory resolution to this issue. Thanks! mark |
