I have a serious question for the Sonic Foundry Staff. Has
there been any work done on Soft Encode? I want to do more
with surround and really like the Sonic Foundry line but
find Soft encode to be next to useless, are there any
upgrades available, will any become available, or has Sonic
Foundry dropped this prduct? Any information you can give
me would be great thank you.

What is wrong with Soft Encode? What do you want it to do?

I guess my biggest issue is the lack of editing power. It
would seem to me that it would be better if Soft Encode
were a plug-in for Sound Forge or something along those
lines. The fact that you have to edit the files in Sound
Forge, then go to to Soft encode, then back, so on. Also
the lack of a record feature is a pain, it would be good to
offer multi track record so that if on my Da-88 or ADAT or
what not has a surround mix on it I can just hit record and
it will be sync'd and ready to encode. Also I don't know
how many people have mentioned that but when I was doing
tech support I know I recieved a few calls along those
lines, and I believe others did as well, though not many.

I have heard these request before.

SoftEncode was never meant to be and editor or layout tool. Strictly
encode
prepared material.

I think the bigger problem is the lack of Surround/5.1 editing tools.
Something that can produce the material that Softencode works with. I
assure
you that we are looking at these issues in our product line.

I would not expect that SoftEncode will be turned into an editor per
se. I
am sure there will be improvements and features that will fit and
enhance
what it was designed to do.

Thanks
Peter
