Hi: I've been using the full version of SoundForge 6.0 e for years now and until recently it's always worked fine. The problem that I'm now experiencing may be due to the fact that I installed the free Audacity recording software on my hard drive, and/or that I installed Sony SoundForge Audio Studio 9 also. But my guess is that Audacity may be more likely to be the problem. After doing some multi-track recording with Audacity, when I try to record with SoundForge now the recording freezes at times and the actual time in the recording no longer keeps advancing. Then after awhile the recording process begins working again OK. I uninstalled all three programs and reinstalled SoundForge 6.0 e again, but I'm still experiencing the same problem. I'm in a tough spot as I lead teleseminars as part of my business, and I need to make recordings of them for my clients. And last week both my own recording and the teleseminar company's recording failed, and I don't want to have it happen again. What do you think the problem is here? Thanks. Jim |

Sounds like it may have something to do with changed soundcard driver settings. What soundcard do you use? Have you checked SF settings to see what drivers it is using? Do you have WinXP optimised for audio? Could any WinXP settings have changed? |

If you have/had XP/Vista's "System Restore" enabled, restore the PC to a date before the problems arose. Within Windows, check the swap file settings, and the fore mentioned soundcard settings. I addition, check which applications are running. Anti-virus, screen savers, ect. "Control+Alt+Delete> Applications" disable all, re-open SF and see if the problem clears up. Within SF re-check sample rate, bit depth, temporary file destination, ("Opitions> Preferences") record buffer settings, and record window dialog parameters."Create new window for each take"the |

Thanks to both of you for your responses. I'm using an Edirol UA 700 USB soundcard when I record my teleconferences, which I've utilized for years now. Question...I see that I've now got only 7-8 GB of available space left on my 100 GB hard drive. Is it possible that having this low of an amount of available space left on my hard drive could be interfering with the recording process? |

6 or 7 gigs left wouldn't cause what you're experiencing. I assume you tried quitting Audacity and SF9 completely before recording in SF6? It definitely sounds like a driver issue to me. |

7 or 8Gig may be a little low for free space. Xp or Vista usually takes a gig or two for housekeeping (page file etc) which means you're not left with much. When capturing audio or video you should always try to keep around 20% of your drive as free space and preferably defragmented free space. 7 or 8Gig spread all over your drive in little chunks won't help for smooth recording. It might be worth removing some data to free up space (at least 10Gb), then do a cleanup to get rid of tmp files/web cache, empty the Recycle Bin and finally run a defragmenter to tidy it all up. I'm surprised that you're not experiencing other speed/performance issues by running your drive at 93% capacity. Some defragmenters may even refuse to run with so little room to manuever. I can't say for sure if this will fix your problem, but it wil definitely rule out one possible factor that may be contributing to it. Message last edited on3/27/2009 2:08:35 AM byDaveM. |

Thanks for your responses. I've just discovered that I have a software issue in my Registry that's been causing my computer to get a blue screen error message since Norton Internet Security installed its last update. So there's something going on in there that may be affecting my recording in SoundForge occasionally also. I'll work on fixing that and will implement the suggestions given here also. |

JimG, I have Norton Internet Security 2009 and run Live Update every day. This is on Windows XP Pro SP3 with all updates automatically supplied by Microsoft. I have not reladed the OS since 9/2005. My Sound Forge is version 9.0e (Build 441). I have not experienced any problems, at least that I know of. Please tell us what you when you did to clean up your problem so we can all learn. Thank you, Larry |
