I'm using AS9 I got with my Vegas pro pack, but when I click on EQ, nothing happens. Nadda. I've tried searching these forums but have yet to find a solution. This is very aggravating and I'm about to go back to Audacity.

EQ should be available in the "Process > EQ" menu where you have a choice of Graphic or Simple EQ. They are also available in the "FX Favorites > Sony" where you should see the Express FX bundle (plus a bunch of other stuff depending on what you've installed on your machine.)
If you're not seeing these then it sounds like a bad install in which case you may need to reinstall the app.

I'm not seeing the Express FX bundle. I guess I need to redownload and reinstall. I know I've reinstalled from my current download and the EQs are under the process, but nothing happens when I click on them.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Check your "C:\Program Files\Sony\Shared Plug-Ins\Audio" folder to make sure the sfxpfx1, sfxpfx2 and sfxpfx3 DLL files are there.
Try selecting "FX favorites > Recreate by Plug-In Name" as I think this forces SFAS to rescan the folder and reload your plugins.

BTW - Are you able to select or use any other Sony Express FX like compression or reverb? Just wondering as I think these are also contained within the 3 DLL's.

I know there are some differences if you buy Audio Studio outright or whether it came in a deal, but I don't think they would cripple the EQ. My Audio Studio was bought outright so it may not be 100% same as yours.

I think Vegas has a plugin called TrackFX which incorporates EQ which you should be able to use in Audio Studio.

I've just noticed that the Express FX bundle can be bought separately on the website and I'm wondering if they have disabled them in your pack. I'm assuming you bought the Vegas Platinum Pro pack?

Yes I have the Pro Pack. I guess this is the "hook". I've tried what you suggested. I have about half of the processes and none of the effects which makes the program about useless. I guess my only option is to buy the FX pack or do a full upgrade.

You should still be able to use the Track EQ, Compresor and Noise Gate from Vegas to get you going.
The other option is to use some VST plugins. There are some good free ones. I can recommend the Pustec 5+1A by Leftover Lasagne, the Reaper ReaEQ standalone plugin and EricSounds FreeQ.

Why don't you ask Customer Service or Technical Support before taking that step ?

It sounds more like something wrong with the install, or something you are doing wrong.

Also try downloading the latest update ( preferably a clean install).

Here is where I am. I uninstalled and reinstalled from the DVD I received in the mail. I have run all the migration tools. I have contacted Support (if you can call it that) and have gotten no response. I am having the same problem.

When I pay for software, I expect it to work at least the way it is designed. Am I wrong on that?

Now what?

I totally agree with you that software should be fit for purpose, but I think it might be worthwhile to contact Customer Support again and ask them to clarify whether or not the Express FX bundle is included with that version of SF Audio Studio in the Vegas Platinum Pro Pack, since we're still unsure as to whether it does.
(If you don't get any response from CS, post that question on the SF and Vegas MS forums. Somebody out there's gotta know)

If not... then at least you'll know your installations is ok and you can then be justifiably vexed at Sony for not stating so..
If it is included... then we've still got an installation problem which I'm sure the folks here will be glad to help you with.

I've got the same software but I installed from the download. I have XFX. If you have the option I would recommend reinstalling Audio Studio from the download. I can't imagine that they would have provide Audio Studio with them.

I'll try to verify that the Vegas Pro Pack comes with XFX on the disc if I get time.

Is the SFAS included in the ProPack only an upgrade? I wasn't under that impression.

I just finished uninstalling anything remotely Sony related and reinstalled the whole package fresh. The only thing that managed to do was get rid of my migration tools.

I did the live chat. The guy I had wasn't knowledgeable enough to give a solid answer. I'm still waiting on tech support to reply.

It looks like you have the same DLL's as the regular SF Audio Studio so you should be able to get the Express FX plugins and everything else, in which case it now looks like an installation problem.

One thing you may want to try is to force a rescan of the plugins. Search for "Rescan for DirectX plug-ins" in the knowledgebase.

Also if you search the knowledge base you will see info on how to clean out the registry after uninstalling. This will guarantee a clean re-install. You may want to try just installing Audio Studio on its own first of all to eliminate any possible interference from Vegas or other Sony Apps.

A couple of reminders 1) Install your software as an Administrator 2) Do a registry backup before editing the registry. 3) Enter the serial number as I think some features are disabled until you do.

BTW - Are you running XP or Vista?

You clearly should have the advertised functionality. If yoiu haven't , then there is something wrong with your install. Try downloading the latest version.

Or ( a long shot here) you are trying to apply the FX by the same methodolgy as your previous software, which may not work the same. SF is about as straightforward as you could imagine, but it may be an idea to have a quick run-through of the Help/Manual as to t he procedure. Hope that doesn't sound like I'm inferring you are stupid, cos I'm not !

Also have you tried submitting you fault online/email. I find this the best way to get it automatically escalated to somebody who DOES know the correct answer.

Okay, I've done all these steps (repeatedly) and I've waited for a reply from support. Nothing works. My dll files are where they are supposed to be. All I can figure out is that the program is not looking there.

Is there another location the program looks? Is there a way to make it look elsewhere?

DirectX plugins create entries in the Windows registry when they install, and programs find them through those registry keys. A few things to look at.

1) Are the ExpressFX plugins available in your Vegas Movie Studio? They should be listed in the TrackFX plug-in Chooser under All, Sony, and Track Optimizer FX.

2) Download the DX manager from analogx. Does that see the ExpressFX plugins? If you select properties on ExpressFX Equalization, does a dialog box with four sliders show up?

3) In your registry, under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sony Media Software\Sound Forge Audio Studio\9.0\DXCache there should be a bunch of GUIDs. There should be one for ExpressFX Equalization at {00000003-0F56-11D2-9887-00A0C969725B}. Is that there?

This is what I would do in attempt to solve the problem. I don't know if it will work for you though. You also need to know that anytime you mess with the registry there is a chance you could hose something up. Try this at your own risk.

First I would uninstall any Sony Creative, Screenblast, Sonic Foundry application using Add/Remote Programs. Make sure that the plugins no longer exist in the following folders.

C:\Program Files\Screenblast\Shared Plug-Ins
C:\Program Files\Sony\Shared Plug-Ins

Run the registry checker option in CCleaner and fix your registry. Make sure that you run CCleaner with administrative privledges. (Right click and click "Run As Administrator") You can get CCleaner at the following address.

Install only Audio Studio using the download at this address...

When you run Audio Studio for the first time run it with elevated privledges ie. Run As Administrator.

Once you've verified that Audio Studio is working then you can install the other applications again. This is just to make sure that there isn't a conflict by chance.

It's possible that this will not solve your problem but it's worth a try.
