Some mpg template in Vegas are video streams only. The idea is that you render the audio separately. In DVDA, you can then combine the two and burn the dvd. If you plan not to use DVDA, you must use a mpg template that renders both video and audio to one file. Look at the description of the template, it is mentioned. (I think what you need to use is the default dvd template (pal or ntfs depending on your region).

When you explicitly tell Vegas Movie Studio to render for DVD Architect then it will create two files. One of these files will be video only and probably a .mpg while the other should be audio in a .ac3 file. They will both have the same file name except for the extension.
