Subject:Microsoft.Net Framework 1.1

I bought a new computer with Windows Vista which has Micrsoft.NET Framework 3.0 installed. When I try to install Sound Forge 8.0 (which was on my old Windows XP machine), it asks to install Microsoft.NET framework 1.1. Can I do this? Will it overwrite 3.0 and cause problems for other programs? What should I do? Thanks for any help...!!!

Don't do the 1.1 "downgrade."
Everything will be fine.

Thank you for your quick reply... My problem is that if I tell it not to install .NET 1.1, it stops the entire installation. Is there a way to get it to install without trying to install 1.1? Thanks again... My version of Vista is Ultimate 32 if that makes a difference...

I see.
Someone else may have better advice than mine, but I suggest creating a restore point in Windows for safety, installing the program, and then see if it overwrites with a previous version. If so, it should be a simple matter to reinstall the latest version from Microsoft.

Don't know if this helps... this is what is on my computer:

Microsoft .NET Compact Framework 2.0 Sp1
Microsoft .NET 1.1
Microsoft .NET 1.1 Hotfix
Microsoft .NET 2.0 SP2
.NET 1
.NET CLR
.NET CA
.NET PreXP
.NET WindForms
.NET 2
.NET asp .NET
.NET CRT
Microsoft .NET 3.0 SP2
.NET WPF2
.NET WPF2_32
.NET WPF_1
.NET WF
.NET WCS
.NET WPF_Other
.NET WCF
.NET WPF_Other_32
Microsoft .NET 3.5 SP1
Microsoft .NET Hotfix for 3.5 Sp1

As far as I know there are no conflicts.
By The way .. I didn't seek any of this out... various software and windows update insisted I install this stuff.

I don't think you'll have a problem but, I think a restore point would be a good idea like musicvid said.

You can have Net Framework 1.0, 1.1, 2, 3 and whatever future version all coexisting just fine,. One will not overwrite or stuff up another.

Thanks Geoff.
Looking at the versions that are on my system it looks like this is correct.

Thanks for all the replys! I'll try to install the 1.1 over the 3.0 that's in Vista and I'll see what happens... I'll report back... By the way, can you install Forge 8.0 without installing .NET 1.1? Will the .NET 3.0 in Vista do what .NET 1.1 does...?

I think you need the version that the application needs. I have 1.0, 1.1, 2, and 3 on my system. They don't install 'over', rather' alongside'.
