Vegas 7 is running slow on new pc?

Hi All;

Have been using vegas 7 for quite a while now. We used to run it on a
-- Intel Pentium D 3.0GHz,
-- Gigabyte 945p chipset motherboard
-- 3Gb Ram,
-- Nvidia Geforce 8400GS VGA card,
-- 17" philips monitor
-- Windows XP Pro

Everything is runing fine until my PC starts to give way.

So we decided to setup a new PC
-- Intel Q9650 3.0 GHz
-- GiGabyte GA-EP45-UD3P motherboard
-- OCZ 8Gb Ram 1066MHz
-- HIS HD4870 1GB VGA card
-- Samsung 2494HS monitor, 1920 X 1080
-- Windows XP pro 64 bit

WE tried to run normal operation on this new setup, the video in preview window is choppy and lagging. Even a simple video file without any filter or effects is taking longer time to render it to wmv.

Is there any settings in Vegas or windows that we could set?

Thanks in advance.

You may be missing the right codec for your media that is having trouble in Vegas.
What media are you using that is having trouble? MP4 files? .. Have you tried some standard definition AVI files? You may have installed some codec on your old machine that did not get installed on the new machine. Try these codecs:

Another possible is Dynamic Ram Preview. Make sure it is not set to zero.

Thanks Xberk;

Was just running a normal Standard definition PAL video.
Anyway, tried to install the codec but no improvement.

The Dynamic Ram Preview is set at 512, will reduce it to 128.

Any thoughts on settings? Could it be hard ware issue?

Thanks inadvance

I wish I could be more helpful. Your problem is that Sony does not support Vegas 7.0 on a 64 bit system. One choice is to upgrade to 8.0. This will get you 8.1 which is supported on Vista 64 bit systems but many on the forum run 8.1 on XP 64 bit with great success. Eventually you will be upgrading to Vista or beyond. But this is not an answer to why Vegas 7.0 is not performing for you now. It should.

I assume you have all the most up to date drivers for your system, motherboard and video card?

Are you running Vegas 7.0d ? ..

Download this veg and run the test.

Post your render time on this thread. This is a standardized test well documented. There has to be a reason for the slow down. This will help.

Download some CPU & disk benchmarks and see how your machine compares on a raw level.

That will tell you whether you have a Vegas issue or a bad RAM stick or a sick disk controller, or ...

Hi Xberk;

Yes, running on Vegas 7.0e.
Will check on the drivers again and also to do the test.

Thanks

Hi clyde2004;

Thanks for the tip. Had done that. No improvement.

Hi Coursedesign;

Had downloaded a Benchmark software named PC Wizard 2008.
After running a gobal performance test,
Processor, Hard drive, Video is 25% higher.
However, Memory cache (L1 and L2 cache) is 60% lower and memory is also 25 % lower.
All are compared to a intel E6600 system, DDR 800 duo Gb,

Had went down to the shop, ask to change CPU. Change to another piece of Intel C2Q Q9650 and also later change to Q9450. Both memory cache and memory still low.

Tried to change to another set of Ram. Same result.

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.
