Subject:Removing echo question

Hi,
I am using Sound Forge 7. I have a sound file that has a little echo in it because of the room acoustics. I have tried several effects and processes and can't seem to get what I want. What is the best tool in Sound Forge in removing echos and not adding echos?

This question comes up a couple of times every year.

You say a "little echo" so the technique I posted years back may give some improvement. Use it sparingly though.

Ok I read it. There is one question and this again is because I am a little new at this but how does one apply moderate compression? When I can do this then I will be good to go.

Effects->Dynamics

--or--

Effects->Wave Hammer

Start with maybe 3:1 or 5:1 compression, with the threshhold set just above the noise floor. Experiment.

I know what compression is but just not really getting what is being asked. The sound file is a .wav file that is 44,100Hz, 16 bit and stereo. So is there a suggestion as to how to apply a moderate compression to it?
