Subject:Acid 6 build 323 End Now problem

Suddenly Acid Pro 6 is running in the background when I try to shut down my computer. I click on End Now and another dialogue box comes up and says it can't end now and to press end now once again. It will then shut down. This happened on my old computer and has now decided to do it on my new one as well. Can anyone suggest how to stop this or any recommendation would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

This is typically a sign that a driver has not closed properly.

What driver model are you using? Mapper?Wave Classic? ASIO?

Are your ASIO drivers upto date?

Are you using any external MIDI hardware? If so, what MIDI i/o devices are using?

Thanks Peter

It went away the next day. I think my Music XPC just rebuilds itself and adapts to things. My new computer has been very good with Acid Pro 6 and I'm preparing to upgrade to 7 in the coming weeks. I'm wondering if it is a good thing to have 2 versions of acid on the same computer? I'm thinking of keeping 6 for awhile until I'm used to 7a and to see if all is well. Is it OK to have the two versions on the same computer? Any tips for the install?

Thanks again Peter

ACID 6 and ACID 7 will coexist with out any problems.

It is best if you allow ACID to install to its default.

This may be a stupid question, but I'm wondering if you could give me more information on what you mean by default settings.

Thanks

...if you could give me more information on what you mean by default settings.

In this context - installing ACID - I meant to let it install were it wants to and not to change it.

Hi Peter

The problem came back and Acid keeps running in the background after closing. I'm using asio drivers presonus firepod, midi device korg karma. I usually use many of the Komplete 5 vsti instruments from NI. Any suggestions?

Problem is listed below once again...

This sounds like a driver has not released and ACID is waiting on it to complete its shut down. It sounds like MIDI driver problems I have seen in the past.

To help me determine what is causing the problem: (This is a bit painful.)

- What external MIDI ports do you have enabled in ACID? If you disable all of them, does the problem persist. If you have multiple MIDI devices, what happens if you disablel all of one device?

- If you switch to using the Mapper or Wave drivers, does the problem occur?

Give me a day or two to check into this and get back with my scientific findings. Do you think that installing and using Acid Pro 7 will improve this or do you think this will continue?

thanks

I'm just wondering if this problem is something to worry about or just leave alone. It is easy to click end now before the computer shuts down, but I'm wondering if this is something that will need resolving which could possibly cause problems down the road? I could always end processes as well before shutting down or opening a new project. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Any thoughts?

It is a concern because the hardware is locking and not releasing.

Killing the process may result in ACID loosing its last known state as the hang can be pre clean up.

I would be curious if ACID 7 is showing the same problem. Since there will be no updates for ACID 6, ACID 7 would get any update to resolve this problem.

Hi Peter

Below are some findings with regards to your suggestions...

What external MIDI ports do you have enabled in ACID? Just the Firepod midi in and outs with Korg Karma. When I disable the midi device it makes no difference and Acid continues to run in the background when I exit the song. Also, when changing to Mapper or wave drivers it makes no difference.

The most significant observation was that this problem only exists with one particular song. Other songs do not cause this problem. I remember having a crash when using reaktor 4 and the problem began to occur after this crash. I have deleted soft synths in the song and this has not changed anything. Any further suggestions?

Lastly, when I install Acid Pro 7 how do you suggest I save the songs I have in Acid Pro 6 to be able to open them in Acid Pro 7 with no issues? I will be installing Acid Pro 7 over the next 2 weeks or so.

Your latest description reminds me of a weird crashing experience I had some years ago with Vegas. It was happening on only one song (of course there were no VSTis or anything exotic in the session). I sent the veg file to Sony and they said there was a corrupted file in the session (probably occurred during a transfer or render). Through some trial & error I finally recreated the song in a new the session and the problem went away. Don't know if this is in any way connected with your situation but I thought I'd pass it along. Good luck!
