Subject:Can't Render To AAC Or RM

Just bought and installed Acid Pro 7 (downloaded the latest version). Everything seems to be working well, except that I can't render to AAC. It's not in the drop-down list of formats. RealAudio seems to be missing as well.

I tried loading an AAC (.m4a) file into a project, and that worked fine, but I can't render to AAC.

Tried rebooting, tried reinstalling, nothing changes. Any suggestions?

Edit: I still have Acid Music Studio (7.0a) installed - I can remove that if that would help.

If you can't render - the encoders are simply not there - but I have to ask - why on earth would you want aac? (well - at least I can think of one reason)...but RealAudio? I think 1998 was the last time I encountered a "real audio" file. The format is dead and gone thank goodness...

agreed. mp3, wmv/wma, mov, flac seem like better options

Amazingly enough, a new hosting client we took on recently encodes all of his lectures to RealAudio and no other format. We had to do a lot of digging to find the RealServer software to install on his box. We spent weeks trying to talk him into MP3 or WMA, but he insists that all of his customers prefer Real and refuse to use anything else. Makes me wonder how many customers he's got.

I don't personally have much use for RealAudio - never have - but there is at least one good reason to use AAC. And I would at least like the option to render to these formats if the need arises.

I've now installed Acid on my notebook (Vista Home Premium 32-bit), and it's exactly the same - everything is present and working except for AAC and RM.

So, not a 64-bit issue. There's some other weird conflict going on. I've started uninstalling all the other audio and video stuff from my notebook to see if that resolves the problem.

Okay, even weirder: I have both Acid Music Studio and Acid Pro (latest versions) installed on my desktop.

Music Studio allows me to render to RM, MPG, MOV, AVI and WMV. All of those are missing from Pro.

Help?

Hmmm... I am running 7.0a Pro here and I don't have them either. In other words - they are not included.

But the Sony spec page for Acid says they are - well at least m4a should be.

Peter - any ideas on what might be happening?

Thank you!

This means I'm not going mad - or if I am going mad, at least I have company. ;)

I've contacted tech support directly as well, and if they come up with an answer I'll post it here.

Got a response back from tech support. In Acid Pro 7, the video-related formats don't appear as render options unless you actually have video in your project. Which makes sense, except that they included AAC and RM in that list. They're going to fix that in the next update.

Adding a short video clip to a project gave me all the options... except AAC, which is the one I'm really after. :(

Okay, just got some more information from support.

It seems that you can't render to AAC. Yes, it's officially supported. Yes, the codecs are included, and seem to work (it can load AAC files just fine). But it isn't in the drop-down box, so there's no way to use it.

I hope 7.0b arrives soon. :|
