Great idea. Very well executed. Can't ask for much more than that.

Very well done! Thanks for the link.

I lost count of how many tracks they must have recorded and assembled.

That was also some of the very best editing I have ever seen.

Man, that is REAL editing!

I was wondering why they were all wearing cans, then I connected that with the unexpectedly good sound quality of this clip...

I saw the first guy playing on the Santa Monica Third Street Promenade while one of many pros were shooting there, and I think that was me in the white shirt walking off to the right near the end of the whole clip.

"As Seen on TV" yeeeaaahhh!

:O)

Absolutely BRILLIANT mix. It gave me goose bumps. The work that went into that.....

oh what a glorious change from all those slick, superficial music videos...

edited cause i want a quick rant about the sad lack of music to be found in most of the above. eye candy, in the form of bumping, grinding dancers, or rappers doing strange spastic movements (whilst all are wearing a plethora of bling that would probably drown out any live sound), will never cover up the sheer fact that there is no musical talent to be heard....

there are exceptions of course, but they are getting to be few and fewer as music (in general) seeks a global market.

it'll soon be that the charts resemble a cross section of the eurovision song contest - an institution developed and produced by a gaggle of outlandish designers, hairdressers, and haywire broadcasters trying to find a common thread among an audience of warring, factional tribes....

rant off
Coursedesign wrote on 1/8/2009, 3:41 PM
I've only ever seen anything beat the Eurovision contest on TV (for comedy), and that was in 1974 in East Germany (where some members of my family had gotten stuck when WWII ended).

They had the equivalent of the Eurovision song contest, but only for the countries behind the Iron Curtain.

Broadcast live, the last song had barely ended before the First Prize silver bucket arrived on stage meticulously engraved with "United Soviet Socialist Republics" on the front.

A few seconds later, a slightly smaller silver bucket arrived, engraved with "Deutsche Demokratische Republik" (aka East Germany), this being the second most powerful East Bloc country.

Then a third and smaller bucket for whichever country they had decided to honor that night.

Yes, this was supposedly based on live voting...

Simply... BRILLIANT!!

Thanks for the pointer Jay - very enjoyable and inspiring.

The cans would have been to keep the additional artists in time and in the same key/pitch as the original performer.

This is an example of one of the reasons I made the move to shooting video - to make a positive difference in the world. So much negativity in the world.

This video gave me a sense of hope for 2009...

I hope some of you are joking. It was okay. I used to like that song until I watched this video. I guess I don't get what's so great about it.
Coursedesign wrote on 1/8/2009, 8:32 PM
Nobody here is joking.

The editing is a masterpiece, and there is great humanity in the images and singing of these musicians.

John_Cline wrote on 1/8/2009, 8:34 PM
Video777,

Wow, I'm stunned by that remark. Do you have any idea how difficult this video was to make?

Why don't you post a link to something that impresses you so we know where you're coming from.

I think that is some great editing, and a wonderful video.
One problem I see, when they cut to Clarence Bekker in Amsterdam the Netherlands.... that is NOT Amsterdam
Coursedesign wrote on 1/8/2009, 9:47 PM
Right, it's Buenos Aires in Argentina.

Video777, just try to emulate this video on your own. Let us know how it turns out--post your version on Vimeo so we can see it.

That clip was honest, simple and brillant, and reached a part of me, that I liked about being a human being.

Thanks Jay.

A quick look at your website and work explains why you don't get this video. BTW, if all you're going to do is string together JumpBacks, VideoTraxxx and StackTraxx/other audio, you might want to state that upfront instead of implying that you actually shot/created any of this material on your own.
