OK just for the fun and funk of it.... With the release of Vista directsound is a dead horse. All calls made by an application with this API now have to go through some sort of emulation in order to be used by the new audio stack in Vista. What I am wondering here (for the geeks that like to talk tech ;-)) With directsound applications, such as Acid when using this API, is the emulation being done by the OS alone (as far as I know most Directsound calls are being emulated to OpenAL calls, but that could be for just games). Or in say the case of the Sound Blaster X-Fi, will the calls be emulated by Creative's Alchemy application? Is Sony planning on implementing some of the new API's found in Vista's new audio stack (i,e Windows Audio Session) into any of their products? For the time being ASIO would be a better choice as that API requires no emulation at all. And while Acid remains a 32bit application that is good for the 32bit environment users - but for 64bit OS/Application users, not all vendors supply a 64bit ASIO API. Food for thought ;-) Chris |
