Yes, v8.0c works fine under Vista64.

I have 8.0c and 8.1 installed on Vista 64. Both run, but I'm using 8.0c since 8.1 has plug-in and Raylight issues.

I run both on my 64 bit system, but was told by Sony that 8.0 is not a supported program under a 64 bit system.

"not supported" means don't bother SCS with formal support requests. BTW, Vegas 8.0c works okay on Vista x64 (I used to say "fine" or "great"). I have noticed that since the recent Vista security upgrade frenzy last week, that now Vegas is crashing on startup a few times due to DEP (even with DEP "disabled" via BCDEdit) on my Vista x64 box. But once 8.0c gets going, it's flawless.

On the flip side, it's too bad that Vegas 8.1 can't be used with most 3rd party plug-ins and codecs, because it is rock solid. I've never had it crash once, but maybe that's unique to my hardware and software configuration.

So what's your system configuration? I'm keeping tabs on stable system configs for a new system build this year...

What kind of plug-ins and codecs does Vegas Pro 8.1 actually have problems with? I've always heard it has, but I haven't really heard which ones.

For instance, I use the DebugMode Frameserver, does that work in 8.1?

Also, there was a nasty XDCAM bug in 8.0c that I am wondering if that's in 8.1, since 8.1 is actually older than 8.0c, if I'm remembering correctly.

OH, and can 8.1 and 8.0c also run on WinXP 64-bit? Is WinXP 64-bit a good option?

Thanks.

8.1 will not work with any 32bit plugins...not even Sony's own Cinescore. And all current Vegas plugins are 32bit. It may be years before anyone releases 64bit plugins.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Spicemaster and Creative Ease work in Vegas 8.1. There is a problem with keyframing, but that is another issue.

Rock solid 8.0c here with Vista Ultimate x64. Both 8.0c and 8.1 are very fast.

But there is a bug (may be down to my system) that means when I an colour correcting and select the colours I want to be white/grey/black, whatevery I select turns black on the preview window. Not a deal-breaker, but annoying.

Well, I wouldn't say it's at all rock solid. Having spent several days (and multiple 2.5hr renders) going round in circles on a 02:06:47:24 project of an open-air production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" shot on my old Digital8 camcorder (which was good in it's day but looks total crap compared to my new shiny Z5 :-)), trying to eliminate blank video clips whilst rendering to avi/mpg before burning in DVDA, I've come to the conclusion 8.1 is just not ready for Prime-time.

I've spent hours & hours trying this tweak and that tweak and still kept producing blank clips. So, then tried rendering each scene seperately, which worked for most scenes but not all. The problem then is that when these seperate files are taken into DVDA, they become seperate titles rather than just seperate chapters - which means there's a jump between every scene on playback. NOT acceptable!

In desperation, having wasted many, many hours on this, I hit the forums. Whereupon, I discover that it's not me going nuts - it really is an issue with Vegas 8.1. Having discovered that, I re-installed 8.0c and the job rendered perfectly and I am now burning the discs as we speak. Needless to say, I'll continue working in 8.0c (on VISTA x64) until Sony fix 8.1.
