Sorry I have to ask, are you sure it IS a video file? Not just an Audio file?

Is this by any chance a new clip type? If so, be sure you have the codec required to view it.

I can't even see the files that I have already used.

For some types of video clips Vegas uses external codecs to read the video stream and the audio stream from that video clip.
If the needed codec is not longer available on the machine then the Video stream or/and the audio stream can not be decoded resulting in no picture or/and no sound.

A codec can become unavailable when you i.e. install or update software that more or less unecpected installs other similiar codecs or changes the codec assignment on the machine.

The fact that a video clip can be seen in Media player, VLC etc is no guarantee that Vegas also can open it.

Maybe you could restore your machine to the last time Vegas could open the video - or maybe you could find and install the needed codec - many people use the K-Lite codec pack - but do create a restore point before experimenting with it.

It was working this morning. I can see the clips in a track but just not in the preview window. I did notice that the last time I downloaded from my camcorder, the files were mt2s, and these are MTS. Both downloads from my camcorder to the computer through Picture Motion Browser. But now nothing previews. Weird. Thanks ritsmer

Just updated to Vegas Pro 8.0c? If yes, go to the TRIMMER window and click the fourth button from the right. Now the preview should return to the main preview screen instead of previewing in the trimmer.

Jet, I have just updated. The 4th button is the Enable Timeline Overwrite. Either way, I still don't get the preview.

I got it! You were correct, it is the 4th button on the top menu. Happy New Year

I've been having this issue ever since I upgraded to version to Vegas Pro 8.0c.
The preview windows will play with only sound and no video.

I tried everything ...I even did a clean reinstall of Vegas pro 8c.
It was only when I did another search on the forum that I came up with the answer.
You mentioned to access the trimmer and click on the 4th button an whola my issue was resolved.
Thanks to everyone on this forum for your help.
