Subject:SF always says my audio inteface is busy at boot

Never happens with AP7 or any other app, so I assume it's a Forge issue and not an audio interface issue. Every time I boot, I get a dialog that says "The 'M-Audio ProFire ASIO' audio device is missing or in use by another application.' Retrying always fails. So I have to click Cancel, click Ok to the dialog that says that the Microsoft Sound Mapper will be used, and then go to the audio tab in the prefs dialog and change it back to the ProFire 2626. This happens whether I launch it from Windows (with no other apps running at all) or if I launch it from AP7.0a/AP6.0d. |

May be something unique to your driver, or a SF bug. Try selecting the classic windows driver and see what happens . There is no advantage whatsoever in using ASIO with Sound Forge. Or.... you haven't got the ASIO diver set in windows Sound Properties as the default by any chance ( can you do this anyway ?). I think apps have to explicitly release an ASIO driver when not the active app, and Win may not do this for the default device. geoff Message last edited on12/21/2008 1:43:20 AM byGeoff_Wood. |

It's not set up as the default sound driver in Windows. There is a really clear benefit to me to have the Profire 2626 (which only has an ASIO driver) running with Sound Forge: It's the only device connected to speakers--my sudio monitors ;-) While the PC has onboard sound, it's not connected to anything. I wouldn't want onboard sound routed through my mixer on the off chance that some random audio blows out my monitors or something. And I wouldn't want to be mastering off of onboard sound either. This same thing happens with my laptop and my desktop machine with the profire. Even if Forge is the first app to boot after the PC powers up. Every other app that uses ASIO works fine (including Acid) so I have to believe the bug is in Forge. |

Could be a SF bug, but it's certainly not common for SF to have problems with any interface device. Did you file it as an official bug report in the right place. ? However, google Profire 2626 and you'll see quite a few people having various driver-related problems... Are you sure the device only has an ASIO driver ? There also seem to be different drivers on the ewebsiote for different Service Pack levels of XP which might be worth looking at, even if it is only affecting one application. geoff Message last edited on12/21/2008 4:20:54 PM byGeoff_Wood. |
