Subject:AP 7.0a - Current status?

The forum has been pretty inactive lately which I can interpret as: 1) AP7.0a is running great and most of the major bugs have been addressed or . . . 2) It still isn't where it should be and all but the die-hard loyalists have finally decided to move on to another app. I'm curious because I hate beta-testing and slogging through bugs in early stages of a new release so I monitor the forum to stay on top of how things are unfolding. I'm not even motivated to try the demo unless there's pretty strong evidence that the bugs have been addressed. I'd appreciate any and all responses regarding how you think AP7 is doing with regards to bugs, stability and performance. Thanks! |

Overall - without total scientific evidence to back it all up - for me - 7.0a is about as solid as ACID has ever been. If you have not even moved to the demo stage yet - 7.0a is a fine spot to jump in. I haven't hit by anything major yet - even the initial 7.0 was rock solid. If I had more time (Xmas n stuff) - I would be able to give 7.0a a bit of a harder workout - but I think many are in the same boat - tis that time of year. I think the forum will pick up in January. Hey drbam, I completely understand your worries. Though IMHO you should wait till 7.0b comes out till you take a look. Your expectations are very high and I feel this version is not up to what your looking for. The mcu integration is not up to my standards. I have a crash when I arm/unarm a track with the mcu. The FF/REW buttons don't work. I know you use a mcu. I think you are like me and use it alot. You could still use the faders to mix though. Works just fine. My new DAW setup is... Vista 64 sp1 [all updates] Two Intel Xeon Quad CPU E5420@2.5GHz 12mb L2 cache Supermicro x7dae mobo [bios 3/20/08] 8 gigs of ram Four 500GB western digital HD [32mb buffer] [or maybe seagate???] Nvidia GeForce 8600GT Echo Audiofire4 driver 4.8 800watt power supply I run sessions using no loops at all. Recorded tracks are usually "beatmapped". I've recorded in "one-shots" with no problem either. The vst plugins I use always are: [all are the most current version] NI: Guitar Rig 3 [always in high quality mode] PSP:Vintage warmer 2 and PSP Mix pack 2 and Stereo pack 1.9. Wavearts Trackplug+Masterverb 5. Izotope:Ozone 3 [on my master buss always],Spectron,Trash. Vst Instruments: Bfd 2.1.0 build 33 Jamstix 2.5 [synced to bfd2 always] Rewire: Reason 4. My sessions run better than they did with acid 6. AP7 has a few bugs to iron out but absolutely no show stoppers here. Work is getting done with minor bumps...no bruises [knock on wood]. I'm really having alot of fun with this version. HTH. Ed. |

Thanks Ed (and everyone else). I appreciate your candor and yes, the mcu bug would make me crazy so I'll pass for now and check back in when 7.0b is ready. I actually didn't start using AP6 until the 6.0d so this is pretty much what I was expecting and am not feeling any urgency for it. The time limited discount really isn't a discount per se - just a "bonus" for ear buds or some loops which I could care less about so there's no need to worry about a deadline in terms of the upgrade price increasing. Thanks again. |
