OT: DV Rack No Longer Supported by Adobe

I had to reinstall DV Rack after reinstalling Windows on my laptop. I then spent two days trying to activate the program. After several calls to technical support, they finally informed me that as of the end of November 2008 Adobe would no longer activate the program. The replacement program called On Location is part of a suite. The cheapest way to get the program is to buy Premiere Pro CS4 for a mere $800. If you have an earlier version of Premiere you can buy the upgrade for $300. It will not be necessary to install the earlier version of Premiere merely the serial number of the earlier version when you install the new version of Premiere. Talk about being bummed. Lucky for me I had an early version of Premiere. I would suggest if you do not have an older copy of Premiere to start contacting Adobe and trying to get the same upgrade path since it seems to me to be a little unfair to just stop activating the program and then not letting you have an upgrade path. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up.

or... fight back & find the "no registration patch" for the program. that's why I'm never worried about Sony ditching vegas support 100%. I can get a fix for that from someone else.

this is an instance where it's not piracy imho. you own the program, you paid the fee, they took it away to FORCE you to pay.

Unfortunately the writing was on the wall the day Adobe bought out Serious Magic. It was only a matter of time. I am also not surprised that Adobe did not let registered owners of Serious Magic products know of this. I, for one, did not receive anything and I have the last SM versions of both Ultra 2 and DV rack.

If you know of a patch, could you let the rest of us know. I made a search using the terms "DV Rack registration patch" but got no results. I also own Ultra so I'm waiting for the shoe to drop on that one as well.

In case you missed it, here's the official answer from Adobe:

# We are preparing to release an activation utility that will allow owners of nearly all* Serious Magic products to get their programs installed and running. Sorry about the inconvenience--we had a plan in place to cover this when the old activation server was taken offline, but it ran into some unanticipated speedbumps. The only Serious Magic products/versions that are not covered by the soon-to-be-released utility are those that used SoftWrap. For those products, you'll have to go through SoftWrap.

so... instead of waiting a few days to take the server offline, they take it offline, piss everyone off, THEN say they meant to have a fix but couldn't get it out the door before they told everyone they're SOL and NEED to buy a new copy.

sounds more like the people with torches & pitchforks scared them so they panicked & said it was a mistake.

The only problem with this answer is that they referred me to SoftWrap who then sent me back to Adobe. SoftWrap said the support for DV Rack is the responsibility of Adobe. I am really confused now. Where did you find the support answer?
