Why is there a MPEG plugin for Video Factory, but none for Vegas?

I'm not seeing something correctly here... Why is there not
a MPEG plugin for Vegas? I thought this was the high-end
video product?

Can somebody explain this to me? Is a plug coming soon?
I've been contemplating buying Darium's or Panasonic's MPEG
encoder... but if one is coming from SF I'll hold off.

Any insight would be apprectiated.

Thanks,
Tim Burton

Yes, that's because Sonic Foundry can sell 1,000,000 copies of Video
Factory at $80 to consumer users versus 100,000 copies of Vegas at
$600 and not have to worry about techsupport and having to keep
upgrading to keep competitive with other professional software. It's
like Mc Donalds Audio Versus fine dining....is fine dining better
food? Yes!!, but what makes more money? Mc Donalds!!!

This is an extra step, but I use the version of Ulead VideoStudio
that came bundled (free) with my Firewire card to MPEG encode. It
uses the Ligos codec; I compress my DV to MPEG and archive to cd-r or
make a video CD. I rarely decode the MPEG to DV for editing because
of the loss of quality. Using a third party software takes extra
time to have to render it twice! I hope that Sonic Foundry does
include an mpeg add-in in the future.

I'm pretty sure we'll see an mpeg plugin for Vegas Video. Let's wait
and see with the 2.0b release.
