Subject:"Close Audio and MIDI Ports" don't re-open

Using AP7.0a, I'm having a problem which didn't occur in Acid 5 or 6. Work in Acid, then switch to another program such as Adobe Audition 1.5 or Adobe Premiere (sorry Sony, I don't have SoundForge or Vegas). Switch back to Acid. Either it's totally frozen and playback doesn't work, or playback looks like it's working, but no sound. Previews in the Explorer window also have no sound. Same happens if I access Audition or Melodyne Studio from within Acid. And it often happens when playing back anything in Windows Media Player or Winamp and then switching back to Acid. Only solution is to shut down all programs which utilize sound, then re-start Acid. The problem is, it doesn't happen every time, so it's hard to figure out where the conflicts are. Now, here's the odd part: In AP 5 and 6 I had the same problem only if "Close Audio and MIDI Ports When Acid Is Not The Active Application" was un-checked (obviously that's what this setting is all about, right?). Checking this box solved that problem. But in AP7 it actually has the opposite effect. It seems that once Acid closes its audio port connections, they don't re-connect after Acid is active again. The problem happens every time with it checked, but only intermittently with it un-checked. Is there another setting I haven't tried? |
