Trimmer in 8.0c?

RickD wrote on 12/7/2008, 2:34 PM
What is wrong with this software? I was using 8.0 and was not able to save jpg snapshots from the Video Preview window as before (V7), so I upgraded to 8.0c.

Now, the Video Preview window is completely blank and the and the video is previewed in the Trimmer itself. Only one frame in the Trimmer now rather than multiple frames as before representing an approximate position on the time line.

What's going on?

There should be an FAQ...if you search the forums you'll find the answer to your problem and also some collective information on the trimmer.

I don't know what to search for - snapshot? trimmer? nothing looked like an answer to my question. But, for some strange reason it is now working correctly.

Except for one thing:

Now, when I am playing a clip in the trimmer and press PAUSE the Video Preview window goes to black. Why does that happen? I can get it back by clicking on the Trimmer's time-line but this never happened before. And it is not an ideal solution since when I click on the time-line the image I get in Video Preview is usually a few frames off from where I stopped it.

AND I STILL CAN'T SAVE THE IMAGE. Nothing at all happens when I click the Save icon in the Preview window.

From the whats new in 8c ,, where you downloaded the program

When the Show Video Monitor button in the Trimmer window is selected, video that you preview from the Vegas Explorer and Media Manager windows is played back in the Trimmer. Because the Trimmer is placed in the same window dock as the Explorer and Media Manager, you will not see your video preview. To preview Explorer and Media Manager video, you can drag the Trimmer to a new dock group, or you can turn off the Show Video Monitor button to preview in the Video Preview window.

Thanks Grazie - hadn't seen that before ..... shows very nicely how SCS have met the needs of those wanting a Source window, using the resizing features of Vegas, plus the options of visible thumbnails and audio, plus insert editing.

Mind you - I set it back to how things used to be - even a young man like me can get very set in their ways!

Your save snapshot button might be too subtly shaded to tell that it's not active, but that's most likely why nothing happens. As far as I remember you can't save stills from the trimmer output, but then I probably didn't even bother to check that in V3-V7

Peter,. how did you set things back the 8.0b way? If you are just using one monitor previer and you right click on some media and open it in trimmer, the preview goes back to the timeline. Oh well, maybe this workflow is better. Let me set it up like Les, and see.

Thanks for that Grazie, I seem to like the trimmer better now. Guess I see why FC and others have two windows now.
