The only difference between a Vegas upgrade and a completely new Vegas is the price.

B&H has a version of Vegas Pro out there that doesn't come bundled with DVD Architect.

Vegas Pro:
Comprehensive window docking options, recallable window layouts

I wonder how people can live without. I always work with multiple monitors, three at work, two at home. When using three, the center monitor is landscape oriented, the right and left portrait.

On the Mac, there seem to be no such thing, at least juding from a typical Mac app transferred to Windows, Carrara. I use Carrara 3D modeling and animation, and while it is a very good application, it has no docking facilities, which makes it an application of the nineties, not of 2008.

And I also tested the most expensive and professional 3D modeling app I have come across, Autodesk 3ds Max $3 500, it HAS NO DOCKING FACILITIES!! At this level..

Luckily, the Sony Sound Forge and Sony Vegas excel at this. I wonder where the others are. Cakewalk Sonar, Carrara, Autodesk - applications screaming for docking facilities, applications targeting professional users who in 2008 most likely have at least two monitors at their work place.

Glenn, original poster is moving from Vegas Movie Studio to Vegas Pro. I didn't mention the details of third-party "upgrades" because they don't sell a VMS-to-Pro upgrade. Only Sony sells that, AFAIK.
