using windows xp pro sp2
in the media manager preview window click on a loop....auto play is enabled....let loop play and go to view and select chopper, then go to view again and deselect chopper....at first got this error message portable/ Rewiredll.cpp (893) (895) and (3544) along with an access violation in modual acid70.exe
now it just shuts down the application
The computer I use is only for music and video stuff...never hooked up to the internet, no firewall or virus software....let me know if this is repeatable with anybody else so I'll know whether to start digging into my system or not....thanks in advance

Can repro here.

To reiterate what gy said:

-Go into Media Manager and select media to play back. Leave it playing.

-Click View > Chopper on the menu bar. Click View > Chopper once more. Crash.

I've been getting something similar happening, first of all when I tried to render a file. It gradually gets worse (ie happens when I try to do other stuff which worked previously) then starts to work ok again after a reboot (until I try that render again, or course).

sent a question off to support yesterday, but haven't heard back yet - first time I've ever had a problem with anything from Sony ...

I've been getting something similar happening,

Similar in what way?

The OP problem releates to the Chopper. Yours seems to be about rendering.

What format are your rendering to?

Thanks
Peter

Hi Peter,

The similarity was in the error message

.\Portable\ReWireDll.cpp(893) :verify failure

and the fact that I was using media manager at the time.

Interestingly - I was looking through the help file to see whether I could turn off rewire somehow as I don't need it, and I got the same crash when I exited help!

Today, however, I am unable to crash the software.

This message is caused indirectly by a crash in ACID.

ACID is a ReWire host and device. It loads in and initalized the ReWire Subsystem. In certain situations after a crash, the ReWire support system recognizes that something was left in a bad state. The message is actually reported by the ReWire code from Propellerheads. It is a debug message that they have not removed from their release code it seems.

So, while it is bad that ACID is crashing, the cause has nothing to do with ReWire and the dialog is merely a side affect.

You cannot disable ACID's ReWire support directly. We have had this request made in the past, and we have considered it. Perhaps it is time to visit this again.

I cannot explain why help crashed you. Do you have any more details to offer?

Thanks
Peter

I would imagine that the software was in a particularly 'bad state' by that time after repeated crashes, particularly if, as you say, it is caused by some interaction with Reason, so it was probably just crashing for no good reason by then.

I did find the bit in the plug-in manager where you can specify to ignore Reason, but at the time this appeared to make things worse at the time (although again that might be due to lack of reboot prehaps).

Later, I will try to recreate my other steps from yesterday and report back.

----
Well, I just managed to do all the work I couldn't achieve yesterday, and the software didn't object at all to anything I threw at it ...

ReWire is an API that any app can use.

Reason does not mean ReWire exclusively.

Reason is just one particular app that uses ReWire.

Disabling Reason in ACID just means that ACID will not connect to it - ever. It does not mean the ReWire Subsystem is disabled.

You are quite right ... it's just when you mentioned Propellorheads, I took that to mean Reason.

In my particular case, that appears to have been a bit of a red herring, because the problem is caused by something else entirely.

I run a multi-boot system with my music and video set up isolated from the internet etc. However, I occasionally enable my connection briefly to register new software, and decided, for convenience to quickly go online and use the gracenote MusicID button to get hold of track details from a CD. Turns out AcidPro is not very happy about me then going back to the device manager to disable my connection again, and appears to become very unstable as a result.

Happily, as I have just discovered, SoundForge9 has no such problems, so for the time being, I am happy to create files using SoundForge and then beatmap them in AcidPro later.
