Is there a way to batch normalize files and have the audio on the same level?

In Sound Forge:
Tools
Batch Converter
Add files using the Files to Convert tab
Add Normalize under Process tab
Make sure you add save options under the Save tab.

Depends what you mean. 'Normal' normalisation only makes all the top peaks the same level.

If you want to even out the apparent audio volume of many tracks, batch convert using WaveHammer with the appropriate settings.

Personally, I wouldn't batch to produce consistent levels, unless I was handling a large number of files for a low priority use. The same limiter settings are unlikely to be suitable across all tracks. So if you are mastering a CD, you can really only do it by ear.

If you are assembling a sample CD or library, think about whether you really want all samples normalised or batch processed. If you have (say) several different velocity drum hits, you will want to keep the relative levels so they will play back realistically.

For voice snippets (say game voiceovers), batch levelling may be Ok.

I will try to use Wave Hammer tonight (I've never used it).

Can you please be specific on what I would have to do with these files in "Wave Hammer"?

Thanks,

"Depends what you mean. 'Normal' normalisation only makes all the top peaks the same level."

That's called Peak Level Normalization. The Normalize function of Sound Forge can do that as well as Average RMS level normalization which can be used to match loudness level.

"If you want to even out the apparent audio volume of many tracks, batch convert using WaveHammer with the appropriate settings. "

WaveHammer in a batch will not match the same level using one single setting which is required for batch processing.

Setting the Volume Maximiser and the Compressor tab to give an an acceptablly close result across the range of input media should do pretty much what the OP wants.

Would need a bit of playing around to find the appropriate settings.

I don't see the "Batch Conversion" option in my "Tools" selection. Is this in SF 9.0?

I am looking for a good batch conversion tool to equalize volume across my music files so I don't have to keep adjusting the volume on my player.

Thanks
