Subject:Popping/Crackling Issue

I updated to the latest version of Acid 7.0a and now when previewing or listening to the tracks laid out I now hear poping and crackling. I haven't adjusted any of the settings and just to double check, I fired up Acid 6 and have no popping sounds when previewing or listening to tracks. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jason

1) Suggestion number one would be to state your system spcecs.

A warm hello to you Jason. Let me just point out that probably 6 out of 10 people who post a problem or possible bug never even give the basic information regarding their system. I also noticed that you don't have any system specs listed in your profile. What kind of sound card do you have? What drivers are you using, ASIO? Windows Classic? You got Vista or XP? When you click on options>preferences> and then tab "audio device," what does it say? what does it say when you then click on "advanced"?

Please believe that the fact Acid 6 did not give you this particular issue and now (without changing anything) Acid 7.a is suddenly giving you "poping and crackling" doesn't alter the fact that people still need to know the basic information about your system.

I've just updated to v. 7.0a and seem to have the same problem. While it doesn't happen all the time, it does occur quite a lot of the time - samples played back via preview from the Explorer window break-up and crackle. However, the same samples, when dragged onto a track, seem to playback fine.

I'm using the latest ASIO drivers for my Konnekt 24D and, as far as I can recall, didn't have this problem with 7.0 (although I only had this installed for a couple of hours before moving up to 7.0a).

Interestingly, when I switch to use the standard windows drivers for the sound card built into my systems motherboard, the issue dissappears.... although this is not a solution as the audio quality/latency of these is not good enough for general use.

Any help/thoughts welcome.....

Cheers

John

Just an update on my previous posting.... I uninstalled and went back to 7.0 - and had the same problem. Stuff plays back fine from an audio track but crackles and pos occur via the Preview option.

For information, the crackles and pops seem to be more frequent with loops that are 24-bit rather than 16-bit.

I also tried using the ASIO4all drivers rather than the TCNear ones for my Konnekt 24D - this cures the problem but these drivers are not very stable on my system so, again, not a long term solution....

It definately seems like an issue between AP7 and my TCNear ASIO drivers but I'm stumped as to why this issue only occurs from the Preview playback. In all other respects, the system is working really well and my other audio applications (Cubase 4.5.2, Sound Forge 9, Wavelab 6) all seem to be working fine....
