Subject:ACID PRO 7.0a: How Long?

Hey, I just wanted to be the FIRST to jump on the bandwagon for the next round of ACID PRO Impatient User Demands!

We've identified a couple of bugs, right? How many before an update is worthwhile?

I'm not looking for a date and time, just a ballpark figure.

Before the end of the month if everything goes as planned.

Hey, Sony! Did you catch that bug when you right click on a clip and choose an Editing Application and get two instances of the chosen editor. For example if you choose Sound Forge, you get the message that the clip is already open when in fact you’ve supposedly just opened it for the first time. Other programs will just open twice with separate windows.

Dude, you are giving me cognitive dissonance here.

An answer? An actual answer? Within a day? That directly addresses the question?

I just KNEW things would get better once we elected....uhh, sorry. Instinct.

Thanks very much for the quick reply.

I cconfirm Ranger Bob's bug report about dual instances of the editing program opening.

Here's what happens for me:

My two external editors are 1) Adobe Audition 1.5 and 2) Melodyne Studio 3.

If I highlight a clip and use the Tools menu to open it in either of these apps, it opens properly with only one instance of the external program.

If I instead use the right-click menu to open it in the external editor, if I chooseif I choose Melodyne, it opens two instances.

This seems somewhat related to the problem I had inAP6:

No matter which editor I chose to open, ONLY the first one on the list would open. In other words, in AP6, if I choose to open the second app (even from the Tools menu), the first app would open instead.

In AP7, when I choose the second app (but only from the right click menu), it opens two isntances of the second app.

I use Sound Forge 9 and get a message telling me that the clip is already open. So I guess I'm confirming even for Sonic Foundry's own products, it's happening as described by Ranger Bob.

Luckily you can safely check the "don't show me this again" button in Sound Forge ;-)

We don't have any control of how a third party will handle being called. It appears that Audition and Melodyne open new instances.

Forge we know about, so we can make sure it does not open multiple instances. The warning msg does sound like a bug. I will bring it up to the Forge dev team.

Thanks
Peter

To be clear, it is not opening a new instance of the EXE, it just appears that when you right click and choose to open a clip, AP7 tries to open the same file twice in Forge, resulting in the "file is already open" message.

Peter, I know what you're saying about not having control over how other apps handle being called. But at least look into why the dropdown Tools menu brings up only one instance of Melodyne, while the right-click menu brings up two. That would indicate some inconsistent behavior within Acid, not within Melodyne.

I believe that Audition doesn't come up twice just because, unlike Acid or Melodyne, it's one of those programs that only can have one instance of itself open at one time.

You guys can download the trial version of Melodyne Studio just so you can see if you're able to reproduce this issue. Costs nothing. The issue is not about melodyne compatibility, it's about the opening of a third party program twice.

Judging from SonyPCH's response, it a safe bet that this bug will not be fixed soon. Sending the bug report to the Sound Forge guys will not fix it in Acid Pro. By the way, it also opens 2 instance of Vegas, so you’ll have to send them a report, too.
I’ve used every version of Acid Put out so I know how it’s supposed to work. How many people have to report a bug before you consider looking into it.
Acid Pro 6d does not open 2 instance of any Editing Application.

We actually did find and fix a problem that appears to be the multiple launching of external editors.

I misunderstood the problem, and forgot that I had fixed this due to a report from our beta testers.

My bad.

So, to address your concern and be clear:

We found and fixed a case where multiple instances of external editors could be launched.
