Subject:Configuring VST Effects as Tempo-based Effects?

Hi All, One vexing thing in Acid Pro (also Vegas) that I haven't been able to figure out even in the latest version (just installed Pro 7): Is there a way to force a VST effect to be a "tempo-based effect"? Specifically, some VSTs that rely on tempo (or transport) information seem to not automatically be understood by Vegas as tempo based effects. For example, Audio Damage's "Automaton" plug-in needs tempo information but Acid does not seem to properly detect this and, as a result, the plug-in does not operate properly. This issue may be present in other DAWs, but Acid doesn't seem to have a work-around, as far as I can tell. For example, in Sonar (which also doesn't automatically "get" that Automaton is a tempo-based effect), one can select VST properties for an individual plug-in and then manually select an option called "Configure as tempo-based effect." Problem solved. I'm looking for the same type of functionality in Acid (also Vegas), but cannot for the life of me figure this out. Anybody have a solution to such problems? Sony support folks, any advice? Thanks and Best Regards, Keith |

For ACID and Vegas there is nothing to configure. VST (and DX) Effects request tempo information and we provide it. I would be curious to know what Sonar does "Configure as tempo-based effect" should anyone happen to know. I don't believe we have the "Automaton" plug-in you referenced. Are there other effects that exhibit this problem? I will look into updating our VST FX collection w.r.t. the Audio Damage product line. Thanks, --j |

BigSeq, Effectrix, and Replicant don´t run either. they haven´t been working in AP6 aswell. can´t speak for previous versions since v6 has been my first acid. |

Hi ForumAdmin, Thanks for the prompt reply. Yeah, that lack of configurability seems to be an issue. There are certain plug-ins that just don't (for whatever reason) seem to express their need for tempo information automagically... Another poster mentions another AudioDamage effect (Replicant) that they cannot get to work in Acid/Vegas. Oddly, that plug-in *does* work for me. I'm sure the folks at AudioDamage would be happy to provide copies of their plugs so you could test. You can contact Chris Randall at info@audiodamage.com -- I had communicated with him via email last month about this issue. Basically, I find that there are certain VSTs that do not report that they need tempo information. Seems that other DAWs, like Sonar, are aware of this issue and provide a way to force tempo-based behavior. The same plug-ins that *don't* work properly with Acid, will work just fine in Sonar, but have to be manually configured as tempo-based. Would be great if you could reach out to AudioDamage about this issue as theirs are fantastic effects and I miss them when I'm using Acid/Vegas (and I sometimes resort to using Sonar when I'd rather be in Acid, as a result). Thanks and Best Regards, Keith |

I guess I've been lucky, I've tried more than a dozen VSTs with AP7 since it shipped and all of them have synced properly to the tempo. I even tested a few of them while dragging the tempo speed back and forth and heard them change the speed of the effect. |
