Subject:recording using plugins

I haven't had a chance to play with input bussing yet so I'll just ask you guys. Can we record live instruments into ACID using a compression plugin instead of hardware compressor? I would rather pick up a UAD-1 card to get my compression, etc., when I record my guitars and my voice if it's possible.
