I was mighty disappointed to see that it wasn't in AP7. Is there any likelihood of it being added in the future? :) |

Why would we need it? I mean - one buys ACID generally to utilize ACID specific formatted loops...in addition to everything else it can do - yes? On the converse - why doesn't Reason allow ACID loops? I do have a large collection of REX2 files laying around - but more for use in StylusRMX than anything else - whoch of course can be used right inside of ACID...so it's all good. However - it would be awesome of one could import REX2 formatted loops into ACID and convert them to ACID format. That would totally rock. VP |

Most of the competitive products support both. |

If you can find it there was once a free basic version of the phatmatik vsti that could load rex files but I think is was only rex1. Also the microdicer vsti will load rex2 files and it's 40 bucks. OR You could just use Reaper but it of course doesn't support ACID files. |

Are you sure reaper does not support acid files. Time stretching ACID loops works fine in reaper. Message last edited on11/4/2008 7:49:40 AM byRickms. |

I work with several people who use .rx2 as their breakbeat format of choice. It is a huge, giant ballache to have to convert them into something acid should have been able to deal with in the first place. If they really don't want to support it natively, then a conversion tool would have been a reasonable compromise. I'm just sore because i paid to upgrade to Acid Pro 7 hoping that it might not be the half-assed, buggy DAW that all the previous versions have been. It's sheer laziness and greed on Sony's part. AP7 is a very expensive patch for AP6, no more, and probably a fair bit less. |

I personally don't know anyone that actually prefers REX2. Even most Reason users (the only app left that's still pushing REX2) don't own a copy of Recycle, so they're not importing WAVs and creating new REX2 files. If your guys are still using REX2 files they're probably tired d n' b breaks from '98... It's probably a good time to step that game up...lol. WAV (standard and acidized) is far more the standard and has been for almost 10 years. |

I believe Sonic Reality is releasing a plug-in that plays multi-track rex2 files. But personally, I rather use acidized wavs. |

I don't use RX files myself. However, most of the sample CDs that have RX files also have the same files in acidised WAV format as well (or so it sems when I buy them). So what is the issue? |

a) I don't use sample CDs - I find them a waste of time. Better to just dig through some old vinyl imo. b)Just so happens I have a quantity of breaks that were chopped into REX2s, and it's a pain in the butt to have to go back and rechop them. My mate uses them in Cubase, and it works fine for him - yes he/we have had tunes released, thanks. I'll move to acidized wav if that's the way things are going, though. Thanks for the tip. ;) b) tired old breaks from 98? step up our game? Most dnb breaks are made from old funk/soul/motown/folk/whatever chops anyway. Tighten Up, Amen, Think, funky drummer, god made me funky, etc etc. They'll never get tired. :D Message last edited on11/11/2008 6:38:33 AM byreform. |

I was probably too subtle in my above reply. Anyone who uses Stylus RMX will want to own Recycle and/ or collect Rex files. That is the only format that you can import. There are other issues as well. The 3 major file stretch methods ... Rex, Acidized and Ableton ... don't all work equally well on different material. Rex files also have the advantage of midi control ... something not available in acidized files. Finally, Recycle is not only an easier and in my experience more precise way to slice audio ... it can also automatically export the slices so they can be used in a sampler. This may all be like VHS and Betamax for those of you old enough to remember ... but Rex files and Recycle have many many advantages over a simple acidized file. If you want to dig a little deeper look here: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/apr06/articles/livetech_0406.htm and for some real heavy duty mangling with both Rex and Acid files look here: http://www.samples4.com/catalog/product_info.php?currency=USD&products_id=722 pHuN |
