Contour Shuttle Pro V.2

Anyone use one? How do you like it?

I think I am about to buy one. They are only about $80 shipped, and I am tired of messing around trying to scroll along the timeline with the mouse. The time selection loop method that Gary Kleiner shows works well for big increments, but after a few hours straight of trying to sort through 350GB of volleyball footage and grab 4-5 seconds of a highlight, I have had enough of doing it with a mouse.

So...thoughts on the Shuttle Pro?

TIA

I use mine all the time. I also use it in SONAR and in Sound Forge. A fine product.

I use the Shuttle Pro just about every editing session. It makes frame by frame editing quite easy. But, no 64 bit drivers yet:(

Yeah, i'd be lost without mine! As mentioned, great for frame by frame adjustments and having all my fave hotkeys at my fingertips definitely speeds up my workflow. I also use it for SoundForge and Cubase, Photoshop.

Couldn't live without it. Makes my multicam editing a breeze.

Great guys, thanks for the tips. I am going to order one today or tomorrow, as there isn't any store around here carrying them.

I appreciate the help!

Remember, Shuttle Pro in your left hand and mouse in your right hand (unless you're a southpaw).

They can have my Shuttle Pro when they pull it out of my cold... Ah, never mind.

:O)

But you'll never want to edit without it.

I use Shuttle Xpress and Shuttle Pro. Gives you a lot of flexibility.

I wouldn't edit without one.

Owned it for about 3 months. Took a few days to get used to and to decide what settings suited my style of working, but I love it. Definitely recommend.

Ciao,

I just ordered one 15 minutes ago--which was about 2 minutes after I finished compiling about 20 minutes worth of 5-10 second clips for highlights of my daughter's volleyball team. It took me about 4 hours to do.

To buy a Shuttle Pro was a great idea...too bad I didn't have it a *week* ago!

Well, the SP v.2 came today and I got it all installed and am going through the instructions for configuring the device for use with an application. I must say, it's somewhat complicated. LOL. I think it's going to be straightforward enough when I figure out which features to support. But that's the issue--which features do you guys typically program into the unit?

I realize that it's a personal preference sort of thing, but I guess I was just hoping to get a head start.

Thanks.

Open the preconfigured Vegas preference file that is in your Sony Vegas folder. That's always a good starting point.

"C:\Program Files\Sony\Vegas Pro 8.0\Sony Vegas Pro 8 -- ShuttlePRO v2.pref"

Use Options | Import Settings in the Shuttle Pro v2 Control Control Panel.

Thanks JR, I did not know that was there. Very helpful, and saves a TON of time. I did an archive search but didn't find the prefs mentioned in any previous thread. So hopefully now the presence of this thread will point people in the proper direction.

So as always, thanks for saving the day.

EDIT: Ah, duh. Just did an index search in the Vegas help section. Sure enough, listed under "Shuttle," is a bit about the Shuttle Pro. And lo and behold, they mention the .pref files. Should've seen that one... My bad.

It seems to be already said but if i did not have my Shuttle Pro you might as well cut off my left hand, it is that useful it cut my editing time down by at least 35-40 % over all and cut my hand pain by 70-80 % well worth the money.

I have been playing around with it a while tonight, and it does seem incredible useful. I'm still trying to figure out which functions I'd like to program, but I suspect that will be a work-in-progress. I bet it would even be useful to come up with a couple different versions of function sets, and just re-import the desired .pref file when you need to change tasks.

It didn't take more than about 5 minutes to make me glad I bought the thing, even though there isn't a Vista driver yet. When that happens, it'll be that much better. The installation software runs on Vista 64, but of course nothing happens because Vista isn't supported yet apparently--and it doesn't say when/if that's forthcoming, although I did email Contour's support folks and ask.

An excellent investment.

OK, for further "simple" ways to use your investment, try the VP8 Online Help. Type in Contour, and you'll find some valuable settings to employ.
