I figured out what happened as least I think I did. All my posts will relate to this problem other than the normal first release candidate stuff. ESET, Comodo, and Microsoft (not defender or the 1% firewall but the Vista system) got together and created a quarantine folder for the Guitar Combo and the the Sony download, quarantined them as I watched as not being able to be cleaned. These files rest there now. I had trouble downloading, I have the fastest dsl in my area, and make sure my computer is pristine every day. I had to reload three of the files. The two that were quarantined were three timers. Have to make this short but Sony basically says there is no way out of the loop Acid 7 got into. So it basically is trashed. I haven't had luck with Acid 5 or 6 either. I ended up uninstalling all my DAW's. There were shortcuts in Sony's AP7 that were booting Tracktion 3, I uninstalled all of my DAW's, including A6 uninstalled and reinstalled AP7 but it was in the same loop. If I am correct, the VST scan was in preferences prior to 7. This isn't rocket science but since it started pulling stuff from Adobe, now ending and not going any further than dxishell.dll, AP7 is scanning the entire c: drive because it is scanning in alphabetical order. Pulling a .dll from wherever it sees something that looks like it is a VST. Sony PCH says there is no way out of it, it scans at the beginning and that's it, it can't be interrupted. I have to start having some fun and not always having to fix something. In case someone has another idea, I'm pretty much done. I can usually trick computers but not this time. Thank you. When was the last time you ran Check Disk? It sounds like you might have some cross-linked files. Also, ACID does not scan your entire C:\ drive unless that is designated as your VST folder in the Windows registry. ACID only scans your VST folder. I can confirm this because ACID did not find any of my VST's that are under my Traktion 2 folder. Something is really messed up your your computer and any software that is quarantining valid applications should be suspect to causing the problem. I run ZoneAlarm Free and AVG Free and nothing has quarantined ACID or caused it to fail on my PC. So I would really question your quarantine software as the culprit. ~jr |

in case someone has another idea, I'm pretty much done. I can usually trick computers but not this time. Well - it's Saturday...a good time to yank out your OS discs, backup your files and install Windows fresh. I am thinking it may take less time to bulk down the box and install fresh than to try and troubleshoot just what the heck is going on here. Another tip - pick a single security package and stick with it. If you have ESET - use it and ONLY it. Final tip - when installing your audio/recording software - be sure to install at least one VSTi that will properly set the VstPlugin folder. I always install my Steinberg software first, followed by ALL my VSTi's and VST effects packages...then I install ACID. It will pick up all the instruments and FX on the first pass and be ready to go at first start up. AP7 is a delight to use - but you have to get your environment in shape first. Good luck and let us know how it goes... VP PS: Fill out your system specs so folks can see what you are using. Message last edited on11/1/2008 6:15:51 AM byVocalpoint. |

I use the same antivirus as you (Eset's NOD32), I have the Adobe Creative Suite 4 Design Premium installed and CS3 was there before. I also had AP6.0d installed but I never got it to work on this machine running Vista Ultimate 64 bit. Eset did not flag any of the files I downloaded as malware and I downloaded them on my laptop first which has the full Eset Smart Security suite (my main desktop is behind a router and has just the NOD32 antivirus app). After uninstalling AP6 and rebooting I installed Acid Pro 7 from the download right after my purchase with no issues. Upon launch it scanned my VSTPlugins folder correctly and I added another folder to the scan. Any rescan takes less than 5 seconds. Like Johnny and others, I think that your system was somehow compromised or broken before AP7 ever touched it. In one of your previous threads Peter gave you a registry key to look at and modify that contains the path to the folder Acid scans for VST plugins (by default VSTPlugins in the Program Files folder. Did you look at that key? In any case, I think a format and re-install of your system is in order at this point. |

Hi Johnny, Here's a good guide for firewalls and malware stuff. They pay him to take apart and brutally test manufacturers products for the security of your computer. AVG free catches 6% with the paid version. Zone Alarm was at the bottom with 2% about three months ago but rose to 86%, and never use more than one antivirus or firewall. I found that out over the last 15 years. ESET antivirus has 32-33% of the market share, that's huge. Comodo is now again #1. Anyway, thank you for the advice and here's something great to keep around. http://www.matousec.com/projects/firewall-challenge/results.php |

Yes, all was well. I keep my computer pristine. Using just ESET for antivirus, malware and adware, it has 32-33% of the market share, big time. While their all in one rates a dismal do not buy 3% or so. The same for AP7 was true here too. The only problem really was Melodyne didn't work while it ran on Tracktion 3 and Reaper and Mixcraft. The start up was phenomenally fast, until I hit the scan for vst's button. I don't know why I did it, they were all available to me in the browser. The scan started at A in the alphabet and scanned the entire C drive, until it got to D in the alphabet and froze. Nothing can be done, as Peter said. Once the scan button is hit, it will scan before start up every time it's booted. Mine is locked in this circle. Here is Matousec's web site, it's good to check it every couple of weeks or so. http://www.matousec.com/projects/firewall-challenge/results.php adware Thank you for your help. |

I am confused. What "scan" button are you hitting? The plug-in manager's VST scan does have a Stop Scan. Peter Message last edited on11/1/2008 11:54:27 AM bypwppch. |

Hi Peter, It does if you can get AP7 to stop scanning. It started scanning at the letter A (Adobe) and ended up frozen on dxi, where it remains. Just to make sure I let it run for hours and it never went further. I completely uninstalled and reinstalled three times but AP7 will not forget the scan loop it is in and returns to the same complete scan of the C drive. I would have caught this bug three days into it. It will now lead to not only an unusable program but AP7 code which is permanently installed with backups nor reinstalls useless, AP7 has the code hidden. I won't be the only one this happens to, but I probably am the only who could have caught this before release. Only because of my ******* way of thinking and doing things. So, first off, I am not mad, I have to let Acid AP7 sit on my drive not being able to use it. I begged Steve and wrote an email to him every couple of weeks. I used due diligence. Sony should have used due diligence in their honesty with me. It there is an alternative, I would be happy to listen but I was never let go. Again, I would have caught this within three days. I don't know how or if it can be fixed. I have a choice. Let it sit there or completely wipe out my drive and start from the beginning, plus the programs I uninstalled to see if they could be the culprits. Sony has been caught with the Root Kit, ESET found two variant of Win32 malware, there was something in the download that made my well cared for machine not want to accept the downloads nor install them which I wrote off as first release candidate blues. Again, no anger, no problems but no matter what anyone says, I saw it get caught by ESET, Comodo and a Win32 section of Microsoft, not the 1% firewall, turned off, or the 1/2% defender, turned off. I checked the registry as you said, it had vsts there so there was no reason for scan to go running amuck. There was no reason for me to hit the scan button anyway, all my vsts, vsti's, dx's, etc., were there in the browser but I have this insatiable curiosity. Another thing was that in this mode, AP7 caught major manufacturers from at least letter A alphabetically to letter D alphabetically when AP7 ran out of space to store this malware. Shame on you manufacturers, spying on legitimate sales and hiding the code, and making your programs call home to momma. Still not made but very, very disappointed. I am sorry that I wasn't used. There are no hard feelings. |
