Could I get a quick down & dirty explanation of how you would use the new Input busses in the mixer? I have an audio interface that has 4 hardware inputs and an external rack mount synth woth stero outputs. I use the input A on the audio interface for a violin, Input B for a MIC, and input C and D for the synth inputs. How would the software mixer input busses help me work better (or do they?) Do I permanently assign these hardware inputs to a software input buss on the mixer? If so , why is this a good thing? I know everyone was real excited about this new feature, but I cant figure out why it's such a big advance. Thanks! |

I know everyone was real excited about this new feature, but I cant figure out why it's such a big advance. I am all over these new input busses for "printing" a "wet" signal - like from POD Farm or Guitar Rig. Add an Input Bus...set the input to your analog hardware ins - like Channel 1/2 and set the outs to Master. Then insert Guitar Rig as an FX...this lets you audition a boat load of sounds from GR without have to record anything. When you are ready to record - add your audio track and set the Input of the track to your Input Bus - hit Record and you can record the effect-laden guitar signal right to the track. Much better than having to insert GR on every audio track in the project as an effect. Plus you cannot print the "wet" signal using a normal audio track. Cheers! VP |

o my gosh - I totally get it! No wonder others were so excited What a time saver and CPU saver! Once instance of the FX can feed multiple aduio tracks just by setting the input bus as the input the audio track....very nice! Thanks for the explanation, VP |

One more thing....is there a distinct advantage of using the input bus to host the FX vs using a send FX for multiple tracks?? Is it only to be able to record the FX directly to the audio track vs. the send FX allowing yout o record the track dry and varying the amount of FX applied at the send? |

Yes - if you want to insert something like a verb or a delay or an entire FX chain and be able to vary the amount - I would always add these to an FX Send Strip. The Input bus has no ability to vary the amount - like it's 100% wet all the time. It would work - as long as you do not want to be able to adjust the amount of FX. It's these kind of new features that really have taken AP7 to a new level. The input busses are a godsend - especially after POD Farm was just released on Friday...that plugin with an Input Bus - makes for the ultimate guitar hoe-down! Cheers, VP |
