Subject:Why do I need Microsoft Wmf 11 Redist?

Why is this necessary? Does Acid use this portable device protocall? Does it need the enhanced security measures for windows media?

Every Sony product seems to require at least one extra microsoft component which I am sure I will never use or need. My music computer is not on the internet. So, if someone can give me a good reason why Acid needs this component, then my next question is where am I supposed to download this thing?

When this message popped up, it seemed to be for my information rather than any required action, as Acid went ahead and installed it, possibly after me clicking OK, I don't remember.

My computer is not on the internet either, so it must have been included in the download.

We support rendering to WMF. We have users that need to deliver in the WMF format as it is part of their workflow. Therefore, it is part of our install requirements.

You do not have to download it. It is included in the setup package.

If it did not install correctly, you can manually install it by locating the Sony Setup folder:

C:\Program Files\Sony Setup\ACID Pro 7.0

and run

WMFDist11-WindowsXP-x86-ENU.exe

Thanks Peter & Peter.

I guess I assumed it was a download since the installer stopped to ask about it. I'll give it another shot...

I have been trying to get AP7 installed on my computer since it arrived the day after Christmas with no success. Actually, that isn't exactly true, I did get it on once but it screwed up all of my other Sony Media and Creative Software applications so badly, I had to do a clean install following the instructions in Answer ID 4289. This was an extremely lengthy process, with hours spent on the phone with the folks in Madison. I'm not a registry expert and may be interpreting what I saw incorrectly, however it seems the Sony installers are overly sensitive to registry permissions. I finally managed to get all but AP7 and Cinescore installed on my computer, by manually resetting the permissions for each install.

Cinescore was a separate problem I finally resolved earlier this evening. It wouldn't install because it thought it was already installed, but Add/Remove couldn't remove it because it couldn't find it to remove it. I finally found Microsoft Install Cleanup, got rid of the corrupt installer, and successfully installed Cinescore.

AP7 is another animal though, and it all seems to be a problem with Microsoft WMF11 Redist. I found the runtime file installer on the CD, and tried again to install. It popped up a box telling me I needed that component, and offered to install it for me. I told it to go ahead, but it told me "Requirements not met. Press OK to Exit Install." I've been doing some digging, and found your pointer to the file in Program Files. I thought the solution was finally at hand, but no, after running the program, my next attempt to install AP7 (actually, I'm no longer trying to install 7, but 7a) ended with "Requirements not met. Press OK to Exit Install." When it once again unsuccessfully attempted install the WMF 11 Redist component.

Surely there must be some way to make this work. From digging around the internet the last weeks trying to get my Sony software to all play together nicely, it appears this component has something to do with WMP11. In fact, the one time I did get AP7 to load it was after upgrading to WMP11. I was hoping I could back up to WMP10 once AP7 was installed, but I never got that far as mentioned above AP7 messed up all of the rest of my Sony aps (DVDA5, VP8, SF9, CDA5, Cinescore).

So, have you got any suggestions regarding this? I sent a note to tech support via email January 13th which is still unanswered. It seems odd a user must have WMP11 on their system to make AP7 work. WMP11 removed a feature from WMP10 I use almost every day in the lab. I have found no way for it to give me a total running time of CD's in the track pane or anywhere else, as it did in WMP10.

So to get back on point, and I apologize for the length of this message, is there some way I can get AP7 or AP7a to install on my machine without WMP11 or having it corrupt my other Sony apps? Or, if that isn't possible, can the bundled software be used with AP6? To be honest, I wasn't planning on upgrading AP6 this time around until I saw the bundled software. If I can make that run with AP6, I may just forget about AP7 and wait for AP8 or AP9.

Jim
