Subject:[Bug]: AP7 - More on "Soft Synths Not Installed"

I have an update on the prior thread regarding opening older 6.0d projects (containing Soft Synths) in AP7 and getting a error about the soft synths not being installed. Backgrounder In AP7 - I am loading a 6.0d project created a week ago containing 7 audio tracks and 3 MIDI tracks - the MIDI track each containing a different soft synth. When this project loads in AP7 - and error appears listing three soft synths as being "not installed on this machine" and they are: 1. EZDrummer 2. StylusRMX 3. Sampletank 2.x The error message however makes references to the following in it's listing: The Soft synth "EZdrummer" cannot be found.... The Soft Synth "VSTi Soft Synth" cannot be found The Soft Synth "Sampletank2.x" cannot be found. Of course - these are all installed and working correctly in AP7 - but how they appear naming convention-wise and reference wise are very different from how AP6 sees the same three synths. So I open this project in AP6 to see how it interpreted the three soft synths and what naming conventions it used: 1. EZ Drummer In AP6 - this item is listed (in the VST Instruments Tab) as "Dfh Sampler" In AP7 - this item is listed (in the new Plugin Manager) as "EZdrummer" 2. Stylus RMX In AP6 - this item is listed (in the VST Instruments Tab) as "VSTi Soft Synth" In AP7 - this item is listed (in the new Plugin Manager) as "StylusRMX" 3. Sampletank 2.x In AP6 - this item is listed (in the VST Instruments Tab) as "Sampletank 2.x" In AP7 - this item is listed (in the new Plugin Manager) as "SampleTank2.x" (note - no space here) After this - I opened the .acd file in a hex editor and checked out what ACID is seeing when it loads the Project...and sure enough - these above references are hardwired into the ACD file So I thought I might be able to use the new Plugin Manager in AP7 to "rename" these VSTi's to match that of what I was seeing in the acd file so the project would load - but to no avail. Renaming/relabelling the three vstis in Plugin Manager to match the names exactly as AP6 recorded them in the project file made no difference. So I am calling this one a bug (or a very large oversight). The only workaround that I can see is to accept the errors and then replace all the wrong (AP6) instances of the VSTis within the AP7 environment and resave the project file under a new name. This is okay for small little test projects like mine - but what if someone upgrades to AP7 and has hundreds of saved projects and gets nailed with this relentlessly. Has anyone else opened a recent AP6 project with any soft synths and hit this error condition? Would love it if SonyPCH or any of the Q/A crew could chime in on this one. Cheers! VP |
