It seems like there should be a way to grab media and stretch or shrink it. No dialog boxes, no editing, etc. just grab it and drag the end (with some modifier like CTRL, Shift, or ALT) and make it smaller or larger (IOW, make it play slower or faster than the right tempo).

Am I just missing a way to do this or is this really not available? The only thing I can find that's (relatively) simple is the ability to make the loop play at its original tempo, but that's almost never what I want. Usually I want to half-time or double-time a loop.

The whole ACID paradigm is that everything plays at the project tempo no matter what so that you don't have to worry about these things. If you want to half or double time a clip, go into the Clip Properties on the Stretch tab and change the Number of beats. Less beats play faster and more beats plays slower. (i.e., 1/2 is double-time and 2x is half-time)

darrena, I know what you are talking about. I use Reaper and it works the way you say. Just grab the end and fit it to the measure.

Yes, and I REALLY appreciate Acid's simplicity. I just think that if you do something like a CTRL-drag at the end, you should be able to improvise a bit with clips more easily and then they could have a context menu not just to play at original tempo but to return to the project tempo too.

But I will try changing the # of beats...

I'm with you Darrren. Sadly it's another aspect of Vegas we expected to see in ACID 6, let alone 7, and it just hasn't happened.

As good as this version seems - some really nice stuff, Peter - I'm really disappointed that Sony STILL haven't migrated all Vegas' audio features into ACID. Such a missed opportunity.

If ACID is, as Sony claim, a fully featured DAW and Vegas (as many of us sadly know) is apparently a video app it's surely logical to expect the audio features of Vegas to be brought to ACID? Seems a no brainer to many, many people here.

Why hasn't it happened, Sony?

Thanks

Ben

Should I be buying Vegas? Does it have the same features as AP7 and more and I can just ignore the video stuff, or is it different and not as focused on audio but has some nice things that AP7 doesn't?

This is what's nuts Darren.

If you're serious about audio and you like Sony products than yes you should/could buy Vegas as it does many, many things that ACID does not. It's more like a "traditional" multitrack editor, but it does this stuff very well. ACID sadly is missing lots of these wonderful editing features that Vegas has; many of us were under the impression that these would find their way into ACID now that ACID is, apparently, Sony's DAW while Vegas, apparently, is Sony's video app. But it hasn't happened so those of us who want to do full, proper non-linear editing on audio plus have the musical functionality of ACID are kind of left in limbo. Or, actually, we're left to go and find and purchase alternative applications - something many of us have done.

Anyways, that's a brief history lesson for you :)

Ben
