Not sure if anyone else has this problem with acid but this is what has been happening lately: i recently purchased omnisphere ( spectrasonics ) I am running projects with about 50 tracks ( 35 audio + 15 midi ) - 10 VST's that include omnisphere, trilogy, oddity, jupiter and a couple others. fx - planetspace & planetphat - Waves Plugins My tracks chop up like crazy when I start to add omnisphere and the waves plugins. Camel space & phat occasionaly fall out of sync as well I have quad 4 - intel mb- 4gb ram - 1TB HD - 1 TB ext. 410firewire Aren't most of the new soft synths gonna need more cpu and RAM usage? 2GB cannot be enough for everyone out there. What is everyone doing to optimize acid? Are 64 bit OS the only ones that can see more than 2 gb? even with other sequencers? I am told that acid 7 will only see 2gb of RAM by someone on here - does anyone see this as a potential problem? thanks for your time |

"Aren't most of the new soft synths gonna need more cpu and RAM usage? 2GB cannot be enough for everyone out there. What is everyone doing to optimize acid? " Yes. Of course - if you need more resources - beyond 4GB - you need a 64 bit OS AND 64 Bit apps AND 64 bit plugs. ACID can only utilize 2 GB of RAM due to the mathematics of the 32bit architecture. I won't get into the raw numbers but if you are using Windows XP and the current version of ACID - that application can only have access to around 2GB of RAM. There are a few trick to make it use more - but then you are at the mercy of how much memory Windows itself needs.... See here for more detail: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa366778.aspx "Are 64 bit OS the only ones that can see more than 2 gb? even with other sequencers? Vista 64 - for example can address 128GB of RAM - but using a 32bit version of ACID in Windows 64 - like I do - will allow ACID itself to address more than 2GB of RAM. in my layout - ACID can address up to 4GB...but it will probably top out around 3.6GB - given some real world tests I have seen. One fellow on the Cubase forums routinely takes his 32 bit version of Cubase 4.5 up to a limit of around 3.7GB using Vista 64. A true 64 bit version of ACID or Cubase or any other sequencer will be able to address presumably up to 128 GB of RAM on a Vista 64 bit OS Cheers! I set my AP6 to be LargeAddressAware with no ill effects here. My XP32 only shows 3.50 GB of RAM. AP6 shows 3583 MB available in the status bar. I use editbin to modify my executeables but I've seen mention of a program with a GUI that makes it easier although I can't seem to remember the name right now. I always save backup copies of my original un-modified files so I can replace them if I encounter problems. (Haven't yet.) I have also set the /3GB switch in my boot.ini file. |

It's easy. LaaTiDo (google it) But since you're changing the system - it's all on you.. And your milage will vary - don't expect magic to happen.. 64bit is the way forward. |

I'm running Acid Pro 6.0d on Vista Home Premium 64 bit. I have 8 GB RAM installed. When I select "Help... About Acid Pro... Computer..." I get the following information. - - - - - - Operating System Platform: Windows 2000 Version: 6.00.6001 (Service Pack 1) Language: English System locale: English User locale: English Processor Class: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9450 @ 2.66GHz Identifier: GenuineIntel Number of processors: 4 MMX available: Yes SSE available: Yes SSE2 available: Yes SSE3 available: Yes Display Primary: 1920x1080x32 Memory Physical memory: 4,194.3 MB Paging memory available: 4,194.3 MB Virtual memory possible: 2,097.0 MB - - - - - It looks to me as if Acid Pro 6.0d can "see" 4 GB RAM. I don't have any projects that use a lot of RAM so I don't know if it will actually use all that RAM. I hope Acid Pro 7 works better under Vista 64 even though it remains a 32 bit app. Message last edited on10/19/2008 1:20:32 PM bynedski. |
