Subject:ACID's demise has been greatly exaggerated!!!

Either I'm seeing things or the tales of ACID's demise have been greatly exaggerated. Cuz' I was just browsin' around and there is an ACID Pro 7 page on the Sony web site! I guess none of the developers in Madison got the memo that ACID was dead. ;-)

Here are the NEW features that I found so far:

Audio and MIDI Mixing Console New!
Input busses New!
Real-Time Rendering New!
Audio, MIDI, and Bus Track Meters New!
External Control Surface Channel Tracking New!
Tempo Curves New!
Metronome Countoff New!
Custom labels for ASIO™ devices and ports New!
Enhanced Plug-In Management and Scanning New!
Cross-Track Event Drag and Drop New!
Switches Including Normalize, Invert Phase, and Lock New!
Enhanced Beatmapping for Tracks with Tempo Changes New!
MIDI Track Freeze New!
Zplane élastique Audio Timestretching and Pitch Shifting New!

Also a 3rd party bundle:

ACID Pro Effects Rack, powered by iZotope
Garritan Aria for ACID Pro Player
Submersible Music KitCore
Native Instruments Guitar Combos.

I'd say that the development team has not only been very busy... but it looks like they actually read the forums because I think I've seen more than a few of these features requested several times here. Mixing Console, Track Meters, and Tempo Envelopes, Oh My!!! Kudo's to the team.

Let the whining cease and the pining commence... (ok, i'll say it first... how soon is soon???)

Ha! Thanks Johnny Roy. I was waiting for some announcement from the Sony brass. But you've trumped them.

This is great news. I sure know i was looking forward to a mixing console. And the guitar combos? Right up my alley.

Swap whining for pining. You bet.

Thanks Sony.

Definitely looks good "on paper". However, from past experience with major Sony upgrades such as this (Vegas, Sound Forge & Acid), it takes many, many, many updates to get the bugs worked out. Sometimes even waiting for the next version before some issues are fully addressed. Sorry, but I can't help but be more than a bit skeptical given that AP6.0d was never completely stable on my systems. Hope I'm totally wrong about AP7 though.

Like the other upgrades, I'll take advantage of the upgrade discount when it comes and sit on it while monitoring the forum to see when/if its ready for real world application as opposed to tedious beta-testing and bug reports with typical "workaround" suggestions. From my previous experiences, my guess is that I might be able to start using it next summer sometime because I'll leave the beta-testing to those who actually enjoy such things.

Peace . . .

I was about two weeks away from pulling the trigger on Pro Tools 8, not to replace ACID but to supplement it. I will just wait for the v7 upgrade now. ACID 7 looks very cool. If it plays well with UAD cards, BFD 2, and the like I may just blow off PT all together.

Thanks for the heads up!

Lots of cool new features, it seems. FLAC support, Elastique, tempo curves. Now, let's hope Sony offers all of us loyal supporters on this forum (and critics, but at least they're loyal to this forum) a super-whammy discount for being so patient.

Would you like Sony to just give you and us the upgrade for free, maybe?

Aside from all the new features, take a look at the software bundle included...

I'm amazed how people don't have a problem dishing out serious cash for a night on the town. but have such a hard time paying for intellectual property and all the effort that goes into bringing to market a new version of a major app like Acid, not to mention all the negotiations with third parties they go through to add value to the product at no real extra charge to the customer.

My two cents
Cheers

Anthony,

Jeez, the instantaneous negativity on this forum! Just like a Republican rally.

No one's asking for free, no one begrudges Sony making dough to pay their developers. Just wishing out loud for a loyalty discount. Other software makers I buy from do just that: offer additional upgrade discounts of up to 20% off the normal upgrade price, which are publicized only on their user forums and opt-in mailing lists.

Then maybe I can set aside the additional savings to pay for one of those mythical nights on the town (which I last recall going on sometime around 1992).

Good one :)...it's been a long time for me too!

Today's software market gives us so much bang for the buck compared to eating out and having a few brews thereafter, I'll just continue chugging some store bought fruit juice, and get this long awaited upgrade :)

Cheers

I can't remember Sony/SonicFoundry ever releasing a new version without giving existing users the chance to upgrade at about half-price. They do that every time. And every time a new version comes out the forums fill with posts of people moaning about how unfair it is to not get a special upgrade price, even though they've gotten one every time before.

I guess it's just one of the things about human nature that i don't understand.

Amazon.com's listing for Acid Pro 7 says: "This item will be released on Oct 27, 2008"

I am very excited about the soon release Acid Pro 7. One of the features I have been requesting for a long time is finally being added: metronome countoff.

Also, I am glad to see MIDI track freezing available.

Looking forward to the new model - and I'm hoping that someone has noticed my request to have significant lines in the midi editor appear as bold, e.g. start of each bar, and each "whole" beat within the bar.

I'm thrilled to see the Acid Pro 7 version ready for release. It looks like they have been watching and listening to posts, since I can see some of the suggestions have come to light. The mixer looks great and something I'm glad to see. The Freeze feature is a big plus, with drag and drop to any track a bonus. The new plugs look good as well, something I don't really need since I use the UAD-1, Reason and the Komplete 5 for most of my plugin and vsti use, but useable for others. The features they added are very useful and should improve things for most people, and I'm glad to see they haven't bloated this version with a ton of unecesary items. If this version is stable and working well, I will be extremely happy and probably will use Acid for almost all of my recording and mixing needs. I use Cubase as well, but for some reason I just can't get my ideas and flow down as well as with using Acid. Really looking forward to working with this new version and I hope Sony has improved stability. If so, this is my app of choice and something I would highly recommend.
